Aug 17 - Sept 24

3-ish hours a week

1 unit (total of 18 hours+ homework)

This orientation course will meet for one morning on August 17 to establish a connection and make sure you have everything you need to start your college course/s on Aug 29th.

We will keep it rolling for five more weeks to give you the full content of the course in our online learning environment, Canvas. You need your Columbia College student email to log in. There is a quick link to our Canvas classroom on the home page of this welcome packet and at the top of the Columbia College website. Plan for about 2-3 hours/week in which you will participate in discussions, learn about our student services, watch videos, and complete assignments and quizzes.

By completing this course successfully, you will earn orientation credit for priority registration at Columbia, meet with a Columbia Counselor (maybe me?) to develop a personalized educational plan, and build your knowledge of all things Columbia and higher education as a whole. I hope this will help you grow in confidence for your college classes both now and in the future.

NOTE: Guide 8 is structured in sequence, meaning we have 6 modules and they have to be completed in order. Each module won't unlock until you complete the one before it, regardless of what week it is or what assignments are due. Due dates are set to keep you on pace for completing one module a week, but you are welcome to work ahead.

Course Schedule & Assignment Overview (link)

This is a link to our general schedule of events and an overview of the assignments for the term.

Assignment details and due dates will be provided in Canvas in each module.

You have flexibility in completing and submitting assignments and engaging in discussion up until the due date. Due dates are set on Thursdays - I do this because I want to be available to you if you have questions or issues, and I don't work over the weekends. You will receive a -0- on an assignment if it's missing when the due date passes, but I will still accept completed work until the last week of class for a 10% late penalty. Once the last day of class hits, September 23rd, what is in is it and the grade you earned gets posted to your college transcript.
