GUARD ("the app") is developed and operated by Yuri van der Putten (Goudboom Enterprise), an independent developer. Contact details are at the bottom of this page.
GUARD works without an account. We do not collect, transmit or sell any personal data ourselves. We operate no server. Your settings stay on your device. The only third-party processing happens through advertising in the free version, and through Google Play when you buy GUARD PRO.
The app requests these permissions solely to enable core features:
Camera and Flashlight — required to control the torch for the strobe, SOS and morse features. Android requires camera permission to access the torch. No photos or video are captured, stored or transmitted.
Location — used to display GPS coordinates on your screen, to determine your local emergency number, and, only when you choose to send an emergency message, to include a map link in that message. See section 5.
Wake Lock — keeps the screen active during strobe and alarm.
Audio Settings — used to control speaker volume for the alarm, including in silent mode.
The app stores your preferences locally: display and theme settings, alarm and volume options, fake call configuration, your chosen language, and any emergency contacts you add (name and phone number). This data never leaves your device, is not transmitted to any server, and is removed when you uninstall the app.
You can save one or more emergency contacts in the app. When you trigger an emergency message, the app opens your device's own messaging app with a prefilled text. If location permission is granted, that text includes a Google Maps link with your current coordinates.
The message is only sent when you confirm it in your messaging app. The app never sends messages silently or in the background.
The message travels directly from your device through your mobile provider to the recipient you chose. We never see the message, the recipient, or your location.
Adding someone as an emergency contact stores their phone number on your device. Please only add people who know about it.
The free version shows ads through Google AdMob (Google Ireland Limited). Google may process device data such as your advertising ID in order to show and measure ads.
In the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom you are asked for consent before any advertising data is processed (Google's consent dialog on first launch). If you decline, you still see ads, but non-personalized ones.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time under Settings → About and legal → Ad consent.
Google may process this data outside the EEA, relying on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.
More information: Google privacy policy and How Google uses data from partner apps.
GUARD PRO removes all advertising — and with it, all advertising-related data processing.
GUARD PRO is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by Google Play. We receive no payment details. We only receive a confirmation that the purchase was made, which is stored locally on your device so that ads stay disabled.
We use no analytics tools, no crash reporting, and no advertising trackers of our own. We operate no server that receives your data.
Where the GDPR applies, the legal bases are: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) for personalized advertising, and our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in financing a free app through non-personalized advertising. Everything else happens locally on your device and involves no processing by us.
Under the GDPR you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection, as well as the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in the Netherlands the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl). Since we hold no personal data ourselves, there is usually nothing for us to access or delete. Requests concerning advertising data are best addressed to Google, and you can withdraw your ad consent in the app at any time.
The app is not directed at children under the age of 16. We knowingly process no data of children.
We may update this policy occasionally. The current version is always available at this URL with a revised date at the top, and in the app under Settings → About and legal.
