Course descriptions

Half Marathon

This is a medium-difficult course on an all road surface.

The first 1.5 miles are on the Leo Palace property.  Runners will run an out and back leg along Flame Tree road and then proceed out towards the main gate.

After the main gate, the next 3 miles are downhill with slight turns. Check your downhill running form.  It is easy to overstride and create greater impact on your knees and shins.  Check out this video (7:08 minutes) for downhill running technique and tips:

The course leads out to Route 4, a major roadway, into the villages of Ordot, Chalan-Pago, and Yona.

These 3 miles are relatively flat until you get to the downhill approaching Pago Bay Bridge.

After the Pago Bay bridge, is the first of two long elevation climbs.  The 1.5 miles up to Yona averages at 3% grade.

At the top of the hill, the road declines for about one mile to the main entry for Yona village.  The interior village road leads back to Leo Palace via Pulantat Road and is the second and last climb at 1.9% grade.  The course returns back to the main entrance of Leo Palace and finishes at the track next to the start line.

Water stops are planned about every 2.5 miles.  Detailed locations will be announced closer to the event date.

Make sure you look at the elevation map and prepare yourself for some hills!

Local tip: the second set of hills, inside the village of Yona (Pulantat Road) is a challenge at nearly 2 miles.  Be strong!

10K

This challenging race course is a mix of BOTH road and trail.  Participants are advised to wear appropriate shoes.

The race starts in front of the track and field area and proceeds down Flame Tree Drive towards the residential homes.
After about 1. 25 miles,  participants will take a right turn and enter the Plumeria course. This begins the mix of narrowly paved
cart paths and trail surfaces for the next two miles.  Be careful in this area and watch your steps!

After the Plumeria course, participants will exit and turn right back onto Flame Tree Drive.  At mile 4, the 1.25 mile 350 ft hill climb
begins.  Focus on your hill training!

After the hills, the final mile will take you out to the main gate for Leo Palace and then back towards the start line.
The Finish Line is at the track next to the start line.

Local tip: run the Plumeria course with caution and awareness.  It is a beautiful open area bounded by trees and lush
vegetation.  Easy to get distracted and misstep. Save your energy for the upcoming hill climb.

5K

This is a popular course route on an all road surface! The race starts in front of the track and field area.
The course is one loop along Flame Tree Drive.

The 1.25 mile 350 ft hill climb starts at the 2 mile mark.

After the hill climb, participants will continue straight to the track area finish line.

Local tip: The first two miles descend 350 ft.  Run this section wisely and save it for the next 1.25 miles of
hill climbing.

2K

A family friendly course route on all road surface.  The race starts in front of the track and field area.

This is an out and back course.  Participants will go down Flame Tree Drive and reach a turnaround
point in the residential housing area.  Then proceed back to the track area finish line.

Local tip: Great course for the kids!
