Club Updates - Fall 2025
Club Funding
For the first time in our club’s three year history, we have funding!
Even better, we’ve transitioned from receiving funding through SGA to being funded directly by the CRC’s Competitive Sports Department.
This change makes it much easier to secure future funding and opens the door for even more growth for our club. Plus, it means we won’t be in trouble next time SGA goes bankrupt.
National Collegiate Grappling Association (NCGA)
We’re officially joining the National Collegiate Grappling Association (NCGA)!
The NCGA was founded this year by the same team behind the National Collegiate Wrestling Association (NCWA), and it’s already making waves in the collegiate grappling scene. Schools like Emory, the University of Florida, USC, and UVA have already joined, and we believe our club will benefit from being part of this growing community.
This spring, NCGA plans to host both regional and national tournaments, opening the door to even more competitive opportunities for our members.
That said, we’re approaching our NCGA involvement with care. Our club’s mission has always been to lower the barriers to entry for students interested in BJJ, and our top priority will remain fostering a friendly, welcoming environment for students of all skill levels. We won’t lose the casual, inclusive atmosphere we’ve built, but we do want to create more pathways for members who want to compete.
The NCGA offers an exciting chance to do just that, and we can’t wait to share details on upcoming events soon!
Club Merch
Over the summer, we’ve been working with NationAthletic to get onboarded as a licensed Georgia Tech vendor, and the paperwork is officially complete! We’ve already kicked off the design process for custom GT rash guards and other club merch.
There’s still some work to do before we have products in hand, but we’re pumped to share updates throughout the semester. Big things are coming!
Membership/Dues
Starting this semester, we’ll be introducing general body and competition dues.
For the past three years, we’ve been incredibly proud of everything we’ve accomplished without charging dues or receiving funding from Georgia Tech. Thanks to voluntary contributions and out-of-pocket support from members, we’ve been able to host collegiate and in-house tournaments, UFC watch parties, and countless other events. Because of that dedication, we’ve grown into the largest martial arts club on campus, and we’re still growing.
However, we’ve reached a point where continuing to improve our events, practices, and tournaments simply isn’t possible without additional resources. After a lot of discussion, we’ve made the difficult decision to start charging dues.
Dues will allow us to:
⁃ Create and sell club merch
⁃ Finally pay Daniel (our coach—he’s earned it!)
⁃ Host bigger and better events
⁃ Recieve more funding from the CRC
On top of that, the CRC now requires clubs to charge dues in order to qualify for CRC funding—meaning this is also the only way we can unlock financial support from Georgia Tech.
We’ve set our dues to be as affordable as possible while meeting CRC requirements and covering our estimated expenses. For comparison, most BJJ gyms in Atlanta charge $100 to $180 per month, so our rates are still an incredible value.
Since this will be our very first semester introducing regular member dues, the executive board has been intentional in setting them. We never want cost to be a barrier of entry for members so despite charging dues, we are offering 2 week free trials to everyone and we have the second lowest dues out of all 44 sports clubs at Georgia Tech.
