To cope with the restless demand for high capacity, there is an urgent need to design efficient Future
Radio Access Networks that intelligently invest in network infrastructure by using existing Radio
Access Networks:
- Diverse RANs (3GPP and IEEE families) are being integrated and jointly managed,
- Deployment of low power small cell nodes overlaid with macro cell BSs,
- Use of existing home wireless LANs to offload traffic,
- Co-existence of Device-to-Device (D2D) communications with legacy cellular ones,
- Density, aggressive reuse of existing spectrum and adapted interference management,
- Spectral and energy efficiency.
Hence, future networks are being devised with the vision of heterogeneity with the inclusion of heterogeneous infrastructures and distributed cloud networking. We intend to organize regular presentation of topics addressing the main issues of future access networks. Further, we aim to build visibility on these topics thanks to the organization of one to two days of intensive seminars, gathering researchers from the field, from related fields as well as young researchers and PhD students.
First seminar in March, addressed topic "Vehicular Networks"
Second seminar in April, addressed topic "Mobile Edge Computing"
Third seminar in May, addressed topic "Radio Resource Allocation in Access Networks"
Fourth seminar in June, addressed topic "IoT"
Fifth seminar in September, addressed topic "Content Caching"
