What is GST eWay Bill System?

The full form of eWay Bill is the Electronic Way Bill. When we want to move goods from one state to another state, then the eWay bill is required. It has to be produced at the borders of the state check posts, then only the goods will be allowed to cross the states. Without this eWay bill, the logistics companies cannot move their goods to another state.

The logistics companies have to generate the eWay bill on the ewaybill.nic.in the portal for each shipment. The eWay bill is not required for goods whose value is less than Rs.50000. When the eWay bill is generated for a consignment, a separate bill is generated for the supplier, recipient, and transporter. The transporter has to carry the bill when moving the goods.

Before the implementation of GST, these bills were generated by the state governments. Now these bills are centralized, managed by the central government, and can be generated online by producing the necessary documents. The below documents are required for generating an eWay bill.

  • The invoice/Challan bill generated by the supplier for the goods that need to be shipped.

  • If the goods are transported by road, then the Transporter Id or the Vehicle Number is required.

  • If the goods are shipped by rail, ship, or air then the Transporter Id, Transport document number, and the document date are required.

Difference Between GST and eWay Bill

The eWayBill and the GST are two different things. However, they are related somehow. The eWay bill is required to transport the Goods. Wheres the GST is the tax levied on the Goods.
