Clarifications

The Fine Print

Clarifications of the PAW Rules.

The rules themselves are pretty simplistic, but we've had to make some clarifications over time. These clarifications do not alter the basic rules, they simply (you guessed it) clarify certain points of those rules. Everything that's here is because someone went out of their way to maliciously misunderstand the rules - so, try not to be that guy.

  • Only Participating Games are eligible for entry. We can’t very well give away games we don’t have, after all. See the list of Participating P.A.W. Games to find out which games are eligible.
  • Your name will only be entered once per game that you play. The intent of the P.A.W. Program is to get as many players as possible to check out a game they might not have played previously. One entry per player per game levels the field and makes everyone who has played it equally likely to win a game. It also encourages people to try out many different games. You can play any game you like as many times as you like, but we hope you try out many different games over the weekend, not just one.
  • Play is required! Just watching a game, or a Demo, does not qualify you for entry. We want everyone to have a hands-on experience with the game they enter to win.
  • You must play with a group! Some of the games that we are showing might have rules for single play, but single player entries will not be counted as there is a whole convention full of people to play with you! If no one else who played the game wants to win it - then rate it the lowest rating! That is the whole reason we introduced the rating system!
  • If you want to play a game and don’t have a group to play with there are lots of ways to find one; pick up an orange cone at the Game Library, sign up for one of our LFG Free Play time slots, check in with our HQ Table to see if there’s anyone else looking for someone to play with, or check our Facebook Page to see if anyone has posted an LFG request there.
  • PAW Demos take precedence over Independant Plays of PAW Games. If PAW has only a single copy of a particular game it may be made unavailable for up to 2 hours before a scheduled Demo or you may be required to return it to the Library without finishing the game.
  • In accordance with the Wheaton Rule: Any player that takes a game on 'Walkabout' for more than double the length of the time of a game's play, over night, or (in the case of short play games) more than 4 hours, may be disqualified from winning any PAW Game. This will be left to the discretion of the PAW Team Leads.

DISQUALIFICATION

It is extremely rare that a player is disqualified from participating. It's much more common that Game Logs or single entries on a Game Log are disqualified.

  • We reserve the right to remove your name from any drawings you have entered if you are abusive to PAW Staff or GMs. Abusive players will be reported to Security.
  • Game Logs submitted with only a single participant listed will be discarded.
  • Game Logs that are missing a Game Name or other important information will be discarded.
  • Game Logs that are submitted with illegible handwriting may be discarded OR we may choose to enter only those players whose handwriting we can read. (If you aren't confidant that your handwriting is legible, please ask for the assistance of another player, GM, or go to the HQ Table for help.)

FAQs:

What if all the copies of the game I want to play are checked out?

We want new players to get a chance to play the games being given away. We acknowledge that there are a limited number of copies of the game available to check out form the Game Library. You don’t need to play the PAW copy of the game to enter to win it - any copy of the game you can get your hands on will do just fine!

What if I only have a one day pass for Thursday, Friday, or Saturday?

All convention members are eligible to win in the drawing. If you do not have a membership that allows attendance for the Drawing on Sunday at 2 PM, we have a proxy system in place that allows you to pick a representative to pick up your winnings for you. Choose a proxy (someone you trust to pick up any games you might win) who can stand in for you at the drawing. Include their name, badge number and contact info on the back of the Game Log entry form. It’s probably best to ask them if they’ll be your proxy first though! If you or your proxy are not at the drawing on Sunday a new winner will be drawn for any remaining games at the end of the first give-away, starting around 3 PM.

What If I have questions that aren’t answered by this hand-out?

Ask a P.A.W. Team Member OR find us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/P.A.W.GameStorm/ and ask us there. The P.A.W. Team leads will check in throughout the weekend and answer questions, make announcements about any adjustments to schedules and very likely post LFG Announcements as well.
