Join us for a 2-day, 1-night canoe adventure down the Willamette River! This trip is designed for adult Girl Scout volunteers who are ready to unplug, get on the water, and connect with an incredible community. You'll paddle more than 20 miles of scenic Willamette River, camp primitively on the riverbank overnight, and experience the kind of adventure we usually help our Scouts have — this time, just for us.
Expect long days on the water, beautiful scenery, good company, and the satisfaction of doing something genuinely challenging. No glamping, no shortcuts — just a real outdoor adventure with people who get it.
What to Expect
1. Adults Only — No Exceptions
This trip is exclusively for adult Girl Scout volunteers. If you're hoping to paddle with Scouts, we have plenty of paddling progression activities throughout the year.
2. Primitive Camping Means Primitive
There's no glamping, no cabins, no hookups. This is the real deal.
No plumbing or electricity
No vault toilets — you'll be digging a 6" cathole
No potable water — you'll filter your own
No camp stoves provided — bring your own
Tent camping only — you'll be sleeping on the ground
3. It's a Physically Active Adventure
Come prepared to work. You'll be expected to:
Load and unload canoes from the trailer
Paddle 5+ hours each day
Manage your own gear throughout the trip
Handle a potential swamped canoe situation
4. Bringing Your Own Canoe?
You're welcome to bring personal watercraft, but logistics are entirely on you for put in and take out.
Bring your own paddles, PFD, and all safety gear
We are not able to transport personal watercraft — transportation is your responsibility.
5. There’s a mandatory prep Zoom on July 12th at 7pm.
If you can’t attend, unfortunately, you won’t be able to participate in this trip. This meeting is essential to ensure everyone is prepared and on the same page.
6. Start gathering your gear.
We recommend checking out the REI Canoe Touring Checklist for a good starting point on what to pack. You won’t need everything on that list, but it’s a solid foundation. If you are in need of some gear, the High Adventure Mentors may have some gear that can be borrowed. Please reach out to us.
