Hello! My name is Sam, though those of you from the camp world may know me as Oodelally. I began Girl Scouting in a Brownie troop and continued on as Juliette after my troop disbanded as a cadette. The majority of my experience in Girl Scouts, both personally and professionally, has come from the summer camp world. Through our high adventure programs I got to participate in, and eventually lead, programming such as hiking, backpacking, llama backpacking, rafting, canoeing, kayaking, archery, horseback riding, and rock climbing. At Whispering Winds I had the opportunity to assist our wranglers with their duties and worked as a “horse counselor” throughout the summer assisting with feeding, catching, tacking, grooming, and very introductory lessons.

I have been a Counselor In Training, Junior Counselor, Counselor, CIT Director, Program Coordinator, and Troop Camp Coordinator with Camp Arrowhead and Camp Whispering Winds. As a CIT Director and administrator I designed and implemented training for our CITs and staff including Small Craft Safety, Outdoor Skills, conflict resolution, hiking and pace setting for mountainous settings, knots and lashing, knife safety, outdoor cooking, and stages of group development. I am very familiar with all three of our resident camps!

As an adult volunteer I have been fortunate to join the trainer corps and become certified as a Small Craft Safety Instructor. I’ve attended INSPO the last few years as both an instructor and a helper, and plan to continue attending. I am looking to expand the number of climbing events available throughout Oregon over the next few years.
In my current line of work I am a challenge course facilitator with Synergo. I have a level 1 challenge course certification, which covers group management and dynamics, legal liability and risk management, games and initiatives, low elements such as Whale Watch, and high element programming such as Rock Wall, Zip Line, Aerial Adventure Parks, and Flying squirrel, among others. I can lead groups in games, initiatives (team puzzles), and low elements. Due to insurance requirements I cannot lead high elements solo. I am happy to advise groups on local adventure outfitters that may provide the high adventure experiences you seek, and on how to prepare your troop for the experience. I enjoy belaying for groups at our approved rock walls and can travel throughout Oregon with notice.

In my free time I enjoy exploring snowy lands, hiking, swimming, crochetting, and cooking allergen friendly food. I am pursuing a degree in Kinesiology aiming for a career in physical therapy or challenge course management.
