Class: Saturdays from 10:00 to 4:30 in Room: N312 ~ Course hashtag: #gse573
class takes place from 10 to 3 since we added mini ZOOM sessions listed below
The syllabus with readings will also be posted on the class Moodle page. I have uploaded all the text and article readings on Perusall, which can be accessed directly through Moodle. The rest of the class website is hidden until our first class--- > when we decide which texts and readings we want to focus on --> based on the experiences of the students in the class.
I will add detailed notes on the assignments and other explanations after our first class ~ depending on student background & experiences & what they need to bring back to their respective schools.
The first class takes place on Jan. 22nd at 10 in Nicolls rm. 312. Since it's an all-day session (i.e. the equivalent of 2 classes) important that everyone comes to class with the readings done! We will plan the groups and assignments during the day & you will be totally lost if you haven't completed the readings.
the Tucker text provides a quick overview of successful systems around the globe --> important to note that Canada is at the very top ~ nice to see what we are doing correctly.
the handbook reading introduces the double helix approach to school leadership... please read carefully as you may choose this model (one of four ) for your final project assignment (worth 40%)
I put the Quebec policy on Educational Success along with an infographic so you can connect it to the other readings. If you are from another province or country... please find the equivalent plan for class on January 22nd... I will ask you about this.
The last reading is just a published article on large-scale educational change in response to Fullan's prediction (in 2000)
Please read on Perusall by Jan. 15th ideally.
Please read Tuckers' ch. 1 to 3, it's a quick read and provides a good systems overview of different education systems. After going over the course info I plan on spending our first class discussion on these readings.
Pay particular attention to the Hargreaves/Shirley preface on well-being. This is the required course text that you will purchase and read throughout the semester.
these mini sessions will be held on alternating weeks due to student request
