On Saturday, we will be holding an open problem session where participants can present open problems in combinatorics. The deadline to submit a problem was March 26.
Here is a list of things you will find on this page:
All times are given in Central Time (UTC -5).
3:35 - 3:40 PM - Introductions
3:40 - 4:15 PM - Presentation of Problems 1 - 5
[5 minute Break ]
4:20 - 4:50 PM - Presentation of Problems 6 - 9
[10 minute Break]
5:00 - 5:30 PM - Initial Discussions
The proposed problems can be found in the following PDF:
Here are links to some of the other documents that we will use during the open problem session on Saturday:
All of these documents are stored in the Open Problem Session Google Doc
The goal of this session is to foster collaboration and communication between grad students. If each person in the problem group learns one new math fact, then the mission of the open problem session will be fulfilled. Each group will decide for themselves how much time/effort they want to put into the proposed problem moving forward. We will encourage each group to meet at least once after the GSCC (see the section entitled "Following-up"), but it will be up to the group to decide if they want to continue meeting afterwards.
The open problem session follows the same community guiding principles as the Graduate Online Combinatorics Colloquium (GOCC community statement). The GSCC has particularly broad scope (even for a combinatorics conference), so different participants will have very different knowledge bases. We encourage you to keep that in mind as you discuss with your peers.
We encourage open problems session groups to meet at least once after the GSCC to discuss the project. At the end of the presentations, we will distribute a When2Meet link for each of the problems. At the end of the initial discussion portion, we will ask each group to choose a time for a meeting within the next 2 weeks. If your group is interested, you are welcome to schedule additional meetings as well.
If you have other questions about building this collaboration or logistics moving forward, email the GSCC organizers at gscc2021@gmail.com
