Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a DoD-sponsored volunteer organization that seeks to create a culture in which military service is valued by every civilian employer in the US. ESGR: (1) recognizes the outstanding support already provided by many civilian employers to their National Guard and Reserve employees; (2) educates both employer and Guard/Reserve employee about their respective rights and responsibilities under the federal law governing employment of Guard/Reserve members in the civilian workplace; (3) through informal mediation, helps to resolve conflict - when it arises - between employer and Guard/Reserve employee; (4) serves as the primary advocate for civilian employers within DoD. ESGR is the only federal agency tasked with these missions. More info can be found at www.esgr.mil.
Through its mission of Recognition, ESGR provides awards, to worthy individuals and organizations, for support of their Guard/Reserve employees. Servicemembers can nominate their civilian supervisors for the PATRIOT AWARD at www.esgr.mil. A Patriot Award may be upgraded to a state-level ABOVE AND BEYOND AWARD or PRO PATRIA AWARD. Nominations for exceptional support can be submitted for the national-level FREEDOM AWARD. Freedom Award nominations can be made Oct 1 - Dec 31 each year at www.FreedomAward.mil.
ESGR volunteers operate in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and US Territories.
