IEEE GRSS Summer School
"Harnessing SAR and Machine Learning for Indian Agriculture"
23-26 March 2026
23-26 March 2026
The IEEE GRSS 4-day Summer School organized by the IEEE SB KLH GRSS Chapter in collaboration with IEEE GRSS Hyderabad Chapter presents an exceptional opportunity for passionate and bright minds to come together and share their expertise and innovative ideas. This event is designed explicitly for GRSS chapter students, scholars and early researchers seeking growth and benefits within the geoscience and remote sensing fields.
This four-day Summer School on SAR and Machine Learning for Indian Agriculture aims to build capacity among students, early-career researchers, and professionals in applying advanced remote sensing and data-driven approaches to address pressing agricultural challenges. The program provides foundational insights into agrisciences using Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), with emphasis on crop monitoring, soil moisture estimation, crop stress detection, and yield assessment.
A key highlight of the summer school is the discussion on the NASA–ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) mission, its unique dual-frequency (L-band and S-band) capability, and its transformative impact on agricultural monitoring. Participants will gain an understanding of how NISAR’s high temporal resolution, all-weather, day-and-night imaging enables large-scale crop mapping, early warning of droughts and floods, biomass estimation, and improved food security planning. The benefits of NISAR data for smallholder farming systems, policy formulation, and climate-resilient agriculture will be specifically addressed.
Hands-on sessions using real agricultural datasets will reinforce theoretical concepts through the application of machine learning algorithms for predictive modeling. The program also offers interaction with eminent experts, guidance on research publication, discussions on funding and fellowship opportunities, and exposure to forward-looking technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data analytics, crowdsourcing, and ICT-based digital tools to empower smallholder farmers through improved market access and decision support.
We have limited travel grant support for Indian out-of-station participants only. Kindly register for the same.
