Year of Growth

Employee Health and Well-Being Month is a national campaign celebrated during the month of June. This month we will focus on assessing where we are right now; our current story. This will allow us to set the stage for growth throughout the upcoming year.

During such uncertain times the one consistent thing is change. Change does not have to be negative. As without change there cannot be growth. Growth can be experienced in all aspects of life, physically, emotionally, and mentally. During the COVID-19 pandemic, we all experienced something different. You may have had the time to learn something new, enhance a skill, or even slow down to reconnect with someone virtually. Or, you may have experienced a different life on the front line, firsthand. Either way, life looks different and we want to know YOUR story.

The first step to change and growth is learning and assessing where you are now. Growth can mean learning to appreciate all the simple things in life and embracing the new. This year, focus on Growth and flourish with the Wellfocused team and your colleagues

Share your story

Each and every day your colleagues are changing lives–whether it's delivering stellar clinical care, developing innovative technology or providing an outstanding experience for our patients and families. And the story is the same whatever touch-point you make with Penn Medicine: our exceptional brand of care is evident in everything we do. From entity to entity, these motivating employee stories make clear we are one Penn Medicine across the continuum of care.

Order a copy of “Daring Greatly” by Brene Brown. Daring Greatly by Brené Brown is a book that focuses on vulnerability. In order to fully transform your mind, body, and health, it’s critical to experience what it is like to be vulnerable. Join the wellfocused team as we read through four sections of the book during June. Discussion questions are posted for the designated chapter. You are encouraged to share your thoughts. All comments are anonymous.

Plant a Vegetable Garden or Flowers

Just like it’s important for you to assess your current status for growth, a garden requires the same attention. Before choosing what to plant, it’s critical to determine sunlight status, space requirements, timing of your plants blooming, and more.

Studies show that gardening can be beneficial for overall health. There are physical benefits to being active and outside as well as positive mental health implications as a result of the nurturing effect that gardening has. Gardening with kids can also be a great bonding experience and provide quality family time. Philadelphia also has many community gardens available to those with limited space.
