March 27 - 28, 2025
GROW@Frankfurt 2025 is for all students of underrepresented gender identities in mathematics, especially female students, who are interested in learning about graduate programmes and further opportunities in research, both within and outside academia.
The conference will feature
- A plenary talk;
- Research talks by faculty and PhD students;
- Panel discussions on: What is mathematics research like? What to do with a PhD in mathematics? How to apply for a PhD in mathematics?
- Networking and mentoring opportunities;
The conference will take place at the Mathematical Institute of the University of Frankfurt and is open to Bachelor and Master students from universities in Germany and neighbouring countries, including international students. It is possible to apply for funding for hotel and/or travel costs in the registration. Talks and panels will be in English, but many of the mentors/volunteers/organisers will be able to speak in German and possibly other languages.
All interested students must register beforehand (see below), regardless of whether you are applying for funding. Confirmed participants will be notified by email.
Registration
The registration is closed. If you have any question, please contact grow-conference@math.uni-frankfurt.de
Plenary speaker: Diane Maclagan (University of Warwick)
Diane Maclagan is a professor of mathematics at the University of Warwick. Her research is in combinatorial algebraic geometry, with a particular emphasis on tropical and toric geometry. Maclagan received her Phd in 2000 from UC Berkeley. Following postdoctoral positions and a tenure-track job in the US, she moved to the UK in 2007, and has been at Warwick since. She is a co-author of the textbook "Introduction to tropical geometry". Maclagan is currently Convenor of European Women in mathematics.
