Honey badgers, also known as ratels, are medium-sized omnivorous mammals that are native to Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and Southeast Asia. Honey Badgers are a part of the weasel family, but do not let that fool you. Honey Badgers are fierce animals which are known for their tough skin and ability to take down prey much large than them. They are marked with white fur which spans from the top of the head to its tail. In some regions, they have been observed as being all black. They are individualistic animals which are rarely seen together outside of mating.

Honey Badger Digging for Food (Northrop, 2012)
Honey Badgers are omnivores but tend to eat a more carnivorous diet. They boast a wide diet which consists of small rodents, large reptiles, berries, and a large variety of insects. Honey badgers also have a sweet tooth for honey, which is indicated by their name.
Honey Badgers hunt their prey predominantly by digging. They have long nails which help them dig at very impressive rates. Their long nails also make them excellent climbers. Combined with their sharp teeth, they can chomp through almost anything.
Honey badgers are omnivores but typically eat meat. They are discontinuous hunters which are primarily nocturnal hunters in the summer months but become diurnal in the winter months. Depending on their location, some Honey Badgers are nocturnal all year round if they are in close proximity to humans. When they are not hunting or traveling, Honey Badgers will hide in bushes and burrows.
Honey Badger Eating a Turtle (Oldham, 2018)
Honey Badgers are equipped with large teeth which aid in tearing flesh and crushing bones. Their stomachs are designed to absorb proteins which may explain the relatively low number of fruits in their diet. Unlike most animals, honey badgers get most their water intake from their food. Very rarely they can be observed drinking from watering holes.
