The goal of the bridge was to hold as many bricks as possible on a cart being pulled across. Our bridge models a Baltimore Pratt truss, which was initially designed to prevent buckling. The design features an additional layer on the top, but due to time, was not featured in our physical bridge. Through bundling the balsa wood, we were able to make each individual leg of the bridge.
We built a wind turbine with the goal to generate enough electricity to power an LED with a fan and a motor. Our wind turbine design features a round base and a single pole to support the blades and the motor. However, our physical wind turbine differed from this design, maintaining the circular look with a cylindrical base. The blade design did remain true to the original model with 4 blades each at a 45 degree angle.
Further Improvements :
For the windmill, further improvements shouls focus on the structrual stability of the aupporting tower and the shape of fans to push up more power form wind. . A wider and heavier base, reinforced connections between components, and the use of stronger materials would help reduce vibration and prevent tipping during operation. Also, more tests and examination of models before building the physical object is required.
For the bridge design, more reinforcement is needed on the sides of the truss structure to prevent the bridge from bending sideways under heavy loads. Additional diagonal cross-bracing could be installed between the side trusses to increase lateral stability and distribute forces more evenly throughout the structure. Furthermore, thicker support members or extra triangular truss sections could be added at high-stress locations to improve the bridge’s overall strength and load-bearing capacity.
