Talisayan

areas near bodies of water — are interpreted metaphorically as representing purity due to their natural beauty. Situated in front of Pampanga Bay, the site embodies picturesque scenery that serves as a gateway to wetland awareness. The Talisayan will serve as a beacon of hope in the fight to safeguard wetland environments that reflect the culture of Filipinos beyond life through water.

FIXED STILTS

Stilts are commonly employed in areas prone to flooding, such as coastal regions or floodplains.

SUN SHADING DEVICES

The wings have two types of sun shading devices. The first is the rotating window panels. Rotating window panels can be adjusted to control the amount of sunlight entering a space. This helps in regulating indoor temperatures, reducing glare, and minimizing the need for artificial lighting, thus enhancing energy efficiency. The second one is the horizontal louvers.

EAVES LACE

The eaves lace represents the wide variety of fish that can be found on the site. Fishing serves as Macabebe’s main source of living.

MOVEABLE STILTS

Moveable stilts allow buildings to adjust their height according to changing needs. This feature is particularly useful in areas prone to flooding, where buildings can be elevated to mitigate damage.

MESH PATTERN

Indicating “parol” as a pattern in the mesh in the wetland center columns fosters a sense of unity and camaraderie in a community reflecting the Filipino spirit of resilience and optimism even in challenging times. It represents tradition, religious significance, community bonding, economic opportunity, hope, and cultural promotion.

FLOATING BARGE

Bargeboards, also known as vergeboards or gableboards, protect the edges of the roof and the walls from water damage, weathering, and decay by deflecting rainwater away from the building.

SEISMIC ISOLATOR

The primary purpose of seismic isolators is to protect structures and users during an earthquake. By reducing the transmission of seismic forces, isolators help prevent or minimize structural damage. This is placed or integrated in the columns within the structure.

AFFORDABLE AND CLEAN ENERGY

The project aims to combat climate change by integrating sustainable and energy-efficient features. Utilizing hydroelectric power brings advantages like reduced greenhouse gas emissions, reliable power generation, and long-term cost-effectiveness.

CLIMATE ACTION

Utilize local energy-efficient materials to achieve low carbon emissions. Construct climate-resilient infrastructure, such as adaptive boardwalks, to address flooding and erosion risks linked to climate change.

LIFE ON LAND

Ensure the protection and conservation of diverse wetland species, including migratory birds and mangrove trees, by designing the center to restore degraded habitats. This involves reinstating natural hydrological processes, eliminating invasive species, and reintroducing native vegetation.

SUNSET DECK

The sunset deck offers a vantage point from which the users can enjoy panoramic views while indulging in their fishing hobby in Pampanga Bay. It provides an unobstructed and elevated perspective, allowing people to appreciate the natural beauty of the wetlands, including the water bodies, vegetation, wildlife, and changing light conditions during sunset.

WETLAND CENTER EXHIBIT HALL

The exhibit hall serves as the focal point of the Talisayan for community events, workshops, seminars, and outreach programs related to wetland conservation. Additionally, it promotes wetland conservation awareness, fosters community engagement, supports research and education, and enhances the user experience.

KAYAKING

One of the engaging activities that Talisayan offers is kayaking. It allows visitors to explore and navigate through different parts of the wetland center. It provides a close-up view of the mangrove forests, enhancing the understanding and appreciation for the wetland. It allows visitors to paddle through calm waters or navigate gentle currents exploring life through water.

OBSERVATION DECK

Elevated above the ground, the observation deck offers a scenic view for bird watching. Visitors can scan the wetland center, mangrove forest, and waterways for birds without disturbing their natural behaviors. With binoculars, spotting scopes and boards with birds indicated, it can further enhance the viewing experience, allowing for detailed observation of bird species.
