Groovzalot Blues Band is a gathering of like-minded musicians who want to play music that stirs the soul a much as instigates the booty-shake. Thus, they landed on "the blues".
But, what is "the blues"? Well, it's a little different for everybody, and everybody will find it in Groovzalot Blues Band. Along with layin' down "the blues", they also play a bit of jazz, country, and "New Orleans Cajun Blues". They even slip in a little rock n' roll on occasion. Some of their repertoire and favorites includes music by Jon Cleary, Coco Montoya, Tab Benoit, Stevie Ray Vaughan, The Band, Robben Ford, Eric Capton, Sturgill Simpson, and Boz Scaggs.
You will find Groovzalot Blues Band all around the greater Portland Oregon area at wineries, festivals, and private parties/events. Please take a moment to listen to some of their tunes above, and feel free to contact us for help with booking the band.
Dave
Growing up in Palo Alto in the 60s, Dave was influenced by many bay area bands. He started playing drums in ’64, thanks to Ringo and the Beatles.
After the service, he settled in Sherwood, Oregon and played rock and roll classics. In the 90s (1990s, not 1890s), he went back to the basics and started playing the blues. He’s been playin’ Blues ever since and is tolerated well by his bandmates.
Kent
Kent is a 6th generation Oregonian who's been practicing guitar since he could hold one. From West Coast to East Coast and back, he was always bathed in musical diversity. From the New Christy Minstrels to the Beatles. Then on to the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Joe Walsh, Warren Haynes, on and on. Focusing on monster players with powerful vocals for his education and inspiration. Since moving back to Oregon in 1982 he’s been a member of several popular Portland area bands such as Floor It Harry, Cadillac Jack, Satellite Beach, Those Guys and Raindriver. Now he’s feeding his Blues jones in Groovzalot Blues Band…and his practicing continues.
Doug
Doug, who believes that a guy can never have too many Hammond organs and Leslie speakers, got his start in the Nightraiders in 1963; he began by playing guitar, and switched to keyboards a year later when their manager said they needed an organ and Doug admitted to piano lessons as a kid. His lost career as a guitar player is our gain, because it just so happens that the Hammond is Doug’s bliss, and he’s a consummate professional at it. Playing steadily through school and college, Doug gained professional polish that was evident when he returned to the stage as a member of the Redcoats in 2002. Gigs at fairs, casinos, and the Rose Festival led to his association with the Jimi Lund Band, and opening for BB King in 2008. Wanting to continue to grow musically and professionally, Doug joined with Bruce Svela to create One Brick Shy. After 10 great years with One Brick Shy, Covid happened. He took several years off and was offered the opportunity to play in a blues band. He is now enjoying the blues again with Groovzalot Blues Band and enjoying every minute of it. Ask Doug about the source of his passion, and he’ll tell you, “I just love my Hammond organ; I love the sound of it, and the feel of it. I love to make music with it.” Enough said.
Greg
A Pacific Northwest native and lifelong sax player, Greg is now on his 2nd 3rd childhood, which explains a lot.
When not sucking on a reed, Greg likes goofing off, playing Go, and using temporal anomalies to rewrite history.
Carl
We found Carl on Craigslist. He plays bass guitar and says he doesn't have a criminal record. That's all we know.
