After getting our first iPhones, my wife and I had managed recipes in Evernote. It satisfied our needs well. If we found a recipe on the web we'd just use the web clipper and import it into Evernote. If we liked grandma's potato dish at thanksgiving we'd just use the camera to take a picture of her recipe and it would be saved for posterity. And, since we share an Evernote account we'd both have access to whatever was in there, whether we were at home cooking or at the grocery store buying the building blocks for our culinary masterpieces.

As I said in my last post, I like to use Siri and an app called AnyList to manage my grocery lists. Paprika works well with my system by letting me export ingredients from a recipe into a Reminder list, which then gets automatically sent to AnyList. To make this work you first need to go to Paprika's settings, select the Reminders Export Options, and set your list name to the one you use in the Reminders app (in my case it's named "Grocery").

This will bring up a list of ingredients from the recipe. Leave the ones you need checked, and uncheck the ones you already have. Then click the "add" button. This will maintain a grocery list in Paprika (which actually could be enough for a lot of people's needs).

One thing to note - exporting your grocery list to Reminders won't affect the list in Paprika. As a consequence, the next time you add a recipe's ingredients to your list the old ingredients will still be there, which you probably won't want if you've already bought those items and made that meal. To avoid this, I'd recommend clearing the grocery list after your export (this can be going through the same steps above but choosing the "Clear Grocery List" option).

For the weekend, I'm pretty organized and usually plan everything I'm going to make on Friday. My assistant, Lidey, shops for me to save having to go to the grocery store on the weekend. If I go to to the store myself, sometimes I end up impulsively getting the two forbidden things: Tate's chocolate chip cookies and vanilla Hagen-Dazs, if I'm being really bad.

In the Reminders app, you can create a grocery list to make shopping easier. Items are automatically sorted into categories. You can change how items are grouped, and the list remembers your preferences. With the column view, the sections are organized as columns across your screen, making it easy to visualize the items on your list.

In my last three grocery posts (see them all here!) I was operating on a $50 weekly grocery budget. For this post I decided to share a $60 weekly grocery budget instead because well, I was feeling a little lazy and those 10 extra dollars definitely made it easier. ?

To simplify my meal planning, I mainly plan for dinners and just keep some basic items on hand for breakfasts and lunches. (For help with your meal planning/grocery shopping, check out this post and snag my free grocery list printable!)

I try to be as humble as possible, but one thing I will pat myself on the back time and time again over is my ability to grocery shop. No joke; I can get in and out in 20 minutes FLAT regardless of how much I need to purchase or how busy the store may be. How? The magic of THE LIST which I carefully curate and organize to maximize efficiency.

I think the moment my husband witnessed me in action behind a shopping cart, list memorized, eyes filled with determination, and bows (as in elbows) out ready to knock out any b*tch in my path was the very moment he decided to propose to me. Truly.

Ask a Sonos One w/Google Assistant installed to 'add peanuts to my shopping list' and it responds 'adding peanuts to a list called shopping'. Same for iPhone with google assistant app. Same for Sonos Move w/Google Assistant installed.

Basically, the reverse grocery list functions like a pantry list: You can keep it on your phone, or if you want to share it with someone else, can create a living document on Google Docs or some other digital server.

This all changed a few years ago when I was just beginning shopping at Aldi. I came across a post on Passionate Penny Pincher about a printed Aldi grocery list to keep every week. The goal was to make a simple checkmark on everything you needed on a premade list.

So I took the idea of this list and tweaked it to suit my needs by adding things we usually buy and taking out things we never purchase. I also included a space for meal planning. Plus, I left some spots to write down anything I wanted to look at in the seasonal aisle.

But I hated the idea of having to remember to print out a new list every week. It sounded like a waste of paper to me. So I needed to have a way to reuse the same list. If I had a laminator I would have used that, but I had to go another way. I slipped the printed list into a sheet protector, like the kind you would use in a binder, and stuck it up on the fridge. And there you have it, a reusable Aldi shopping list.

Tweak it in the coming weeks. When setting up a new store list, it often takes me a few trips to the store before I have everything on the list I purchase most often and in the right place. Know that you might need to make a few edits.

The last thing I want to talk about is the grocery list feature in our recipe organizer app ClipDish. This feature lets you take the ingredients from your favorite recipes and send them to your Apple Reminders shopping list.

So basically my function has to have:1: A pre-created list for pantry items2: User input into an ingredient list3: Pass the ingredient list to a method4: Use a conditional and loop in the method5: Print out the results of whether the user needs to go shopping based on the items in the ingredient list that are not in the pantry.

With a growing family, Lisa Bounds wanted to eat out less and cook more homemade meals. She started meal planning with pen and paper, and a stack of recipe books. It helped her family eat at home more and save money at the grocery store, but meal planning took a lot of time.

But the very best part of Plan to Eat is the automated shopping list. When you add recipes to your calendar, the shopping list will automatically populate an organized list of ingredients you need to buy.

It took a few days for the app & fridge to finally sync after this latest update. I wish they kept the feature to send checked off items from your shopping list to the View Inside/Food List. You can send items from Food List to shopping list, so why not the other way as well?

If you want to give it a try, you can download my latest list as a Word document in Norwegian A4 size or English A4 or legal size. Give it a try, and let me know what you think in the comments!

You can create an Evernote grocery list in a matter of seconds. Simply open a new note, add bolded headings for each category of the grocery store, and begin adding your grocery needs underneath the headings.

This is brilliant because I have a horrible memory, and I never remember all the grocery requests David mentions to me in passing. Now, if he mentions we need an item from the store, I simply remind him to add it to the app if he wants me to buy it when I get groceries next.

Once you start a new note inside Evernote, go ahead and add bolded headings based on category of the grocery store. This keeps things nice and organized! Then you can add your grocery items with the little checkboxes as lists underneath each headline.

When you build a new meal plan, you'll notice that your grocery list is replaced with a list of all the ingredients you need for your new meal plan. There will be a number above the grocery list icon showing how many pending items you need to check off.

The first step to getting started with your grocery list is to tap the grocery list and check off the ingredients that you already have in your kitchen. Things like salt, oil, and bulk items like rice or quinoa are staples and can often be checked off right away.

Next, head on over to the grocery store and check off each item as you pick it up. The grocery list is organized into categories that match with common grocery store layouts, so you should be in an out in no time at all!

Create zones on your list.

One long list of ingredients in random order is a recipe for chaos once you arrive at the store. My strategy is to divide my piece of paper into zones, and I have been doing it the same way for years. The key is to use zones that make sense to you and match up to your store of choice.

When you arrive at the store, your list will be a map you follow through the store, and each item will correspond with a zone, reducing confusion as you shop. I have been doing this for so long that I no longer need the literal titles of the zones on my paper. If I write something in the upper left hand corner, I know it is produce. Bottom left? Frozen. Upper right? Those are my pantry items. It has become second nature to my brain, and I love the clarity this approach provides to the grocery shopping process.

Be specific with quantity if quantity matters.

Sometimes we can jot down an item and not worry about a specific quantity. Other times quantity is crucial. Knowing the difference is a skill that will serve you well as you make your list.

However, if I am making Spaghetti Pie, and the recipe calls for 16-ounces of sour cream, 12-ounces of cheddar cheese, and one pound of pasta, the quantities matter quite a lot to the success of the finished dish. So in this case, on my list I would write the specific amounts I need of sour cream, cheese, and pasta, making sure I grab the correct quantities of each while I shop. 006ab0faaa
