The summer school will take place at the Campus Grifflenberg of the Bergische Universität Wuppertal

Lectures will take place in Lecture Hall (Hörsaal) 12, room L.09.28 and coffee breaks will be held in Seminar Room K5, room K.11.20.

Understanding room numbers
Room numbers at the university have the form building.level.room. Thus,
L.09.28 = Building L, level 09, room 28 - Lecture Hall 12.
K.11.20 = Building K, level 11, room 20 - Seminar Room K5.

For more detailed navigation, we also recommend the University of Wuppertal Campus App. The app includes Campus Navi, which can be used to find individual buildings, lecture halls and rooms on campus. In particular, you can search directly for the room numbers L.09.28 and K.11.20. 

Getting to the university from Wuppertal Hauptbahnhof
From Wuppertal Hauptbahnhof (main railway station), go to the bus station immediately outside the station. The most convenient buses to Campus Grifflenberg are

Bus 645, direction Schulzentrum Süd and
Bus 615, direction Remscheid.

Get off at the stop Universität. The bus journey takes approximately 10-15 minutes.
The university is also reachable on foot from the main station in approximately 20 minutes. Please note that the walk is uphill.
Alternatively you can use the website of the regional public transport association VRR or use the VRR app to plan your journey. 

Food and drinks on campus
Several dining facilities are located on Campus Grifflenberg. The main university dining facilities are in Building ME.

Mensa (ME 02)
The Mensa is the main university canteen and is the most convenient option for lunch.
During the summer school week, the Mensa is open Monday-Friday, 11:30-14:30, with warm meals served during the same period. The daily menu is published online by the Studierendenwerk Wuppertal. 

Uni-Kneipe (ME 04)
The Uni-Kneipe, also located in Building ME, serves drinks and warm food and has a terrace overlooking Wuppertal. It can be a convenient option for a later lunch or an informal meal after the talks.

Please note: C@feteria ME 03 is closed during the semester break from August 10th to September 25th 2026, including the summer school week.  On Friday, September 4th, all dining facilities are closed on campus.

If you prefer to get a sandwich or a small snack instead of a full meal, you can go to Cafetaria Bibliothek on floor 10 of building F.

Restaurants in the city center
Wuppertal-Elberfeld offers many restaurants within walking distance of the Hauptbahnhof. The Luisenviertel, west of the city center, is particularly pleasant in the evening, with restaurants, cafés and bars around Luisenstraße and Laurentiusplatz.

Some suggestions are:
Katzengold - a relaxed café and restaurant in the Luisenviertel.
Alaturka - Turkish cuisine in the Luisenviertel, particularly suitable for dinner.
TROJA Café & Restaurant - in central Elberfeld and convenient for lunch or dinner.
Don Camillo & Peppone - Italian restaurant and pizzeria near the Luisenviertel, with pizza and pasta.

For larger groups, we recommend reserving a table in advance.

Things to do in Wuppertal

Wuppertal Schwebebahn
The Schwebebahn, Wuppertal’s suspended railway, is the city’s most famous landmark and also part of its regular public transport network. Much of the route runs directly above the river Wupper, and a journey between the two terminal stations takes approximately 30 minutes. A ride on the Schwebebahn is perhaps the easiest way to obtain a first impression of the city.

Von der Heydt Museum
The Von der Heydt Museum is an art museum in the centre of Elberfeld, approximately five minutes on foot from the Hauptbahnhof. Its collection includes important works from the nineteenth, twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden
The Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden combines contemporary sculpture with a wooded landscape on the hills above Wuppertal. From March to October, the park is normally open Tuesday-Sunday.

Engels Haus and the Museum of Early Industrialisation
The historical center in Wuppertal-Barmen includes the Engels Haus, associated with Friedrich Engels, and the Museum of Early Industrialization. Together they provide an introduction to Wuppertal's industrial and social history.

Bouldering
For those interested in bouldering, Bahnhof Blo is a bouldering café in Wuppertal's Nordstadt. It is located in a former industrial building and offers approximately 600 m² of climbing surface, directly next to the Nordbahntrasse.
Another possibility is Boulderhalle Prisma in Wuppertal-Vohwinkel. It is close to the Vohwinkel railway station and the western terminus of the Schwebebahn.
