GRIPS or the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies is a specialist graduate university located in the heart of Tokyo. Approximately 3/4 of the students are from outside Japan, mostly from developing countries in Asia and Africa.
Our local neighbourhoods are Roppongi, Nogizaka, Nishiazabu and Akasaka.
Walkable hotels include the Ritz Carlton and Grand Hyatt ( both 5*), Hotel Asia Center of Japan, remm Roppongi, APA hotel Roppongi 6, APA hotel Nishiazabu, Akasaka Yoko hotel, (3*)
Roppongi has a limited supply of affordable hotel rooms but Tokyo has a brilliant and reliable underground system, so basing yourself close to a station on the Hibiya, Oedo or Chiyoda lines can give you easy access to GRIPS.
Enter "GRIPS Roppongi" in google maps and follow the directions. The university is based in a single building which faces the gorgeous National Art Centre, Tokyo.
By plane
Tokyo has two major airports: Haneda and Narita.
From Haneda: take the monorail to its terminus and switch to the Oedo line, heading towards Roppongi/Shinjuku. Exit at Roppongi and take exit 7.
From Narita: there are regular express buses to Tokyo station (90 minutes). Alternatively the Skyliner express train runs to Nippori and the Narita express train runs to Tokyo station and Shinjuku where you can switch to the Oedo line. Note that not all trains run to Shinjuku.
By underground/subway/metro
The nearest stations (all within 5 minutes walk) are Nogizaka on the Chiyoda line or Roppongi (Hibiya and Oedo lines). Services are frequent and reliable.
