Born into a family of seven being the youngest has many disadvantages, but it also taught me many great life skills. The biggest disadvantage of being the youngest is that anything that my older siblings didn’t want to do, they made me do, such as feeding pigs in the summertime when it was hot and there are flies everywhere. Being the youngest, I learned to be tough to keep up with my older brothers while we were working or playing sports. My parents are Frank and Carole, and my siblings are Julie, Melissa, Eric, and Mikeal.
I was raised on a farm all my life and have experienced long hours and hard work first hand. As I was growing up, my dad raised hogs, beef cows, and milked cows. I got to experience every type of chore there was to do on the farm, from feeding sows in hot and smelly barns to milking cows with my cousins. As I got older, I got to do less labor intensive jobs, but put in more hours doing other jobs such as swathing hay, helping with harvest, and planting cover crops.
All my life, I have wanted to be the one who provides. If that is for my family, my wife, my friends, my kids or for the greatest country in the world. The only way I can provide for all of those things is to be a farmer. I was born and raised on a farm and have worked after school and everyday during the summer on our family farm. I grow up on a family dairy, small pig operation, and my dad also had a cow calf operation, and being able to work around animals has always been my favorite thing to do.
For as long as could remember I’ve been milking cows with my cousins. This was always my favorite thing about farming is that everything you do is for the family, and are always working with family. By being able to grow up in this environment I have seen how this draws families close together.
Ever since I was a kid all I wanted to do was be able to have my own herd of cows. I will accomplish this by being a good businessman and be a great manager to make money and provide for my family. I will provide for the country and my friends by producing safe and healthy food. The way I’m going to achieve this is by going to Southeast Community College at the Beatrice Nebraska campus. At this college I will follow Livestock management and production as my major. I will come back to Nemaha county and raise Black angus cattle and have some row crop acres that I will farm with my brothers.
In my high school career the majority of my classes are filled with classes in the shop where we learn many hands on skills. I participated in football and basketballs for a couple years, and have done golf every year. I choose to do golf because it would be a sport I would play for the rest of my life, so I wanted to be good at it. I plan on going to Southeast Community College Beatrice, Nebraska campus. The plan is to major in livestock management and production. Somethings that will help me get into this college is a good accuplacer score and a good Gpa.
One place I have always wanted to go to is Alaska. I would want to tour the countryside, but I would also would want to go hunting for moose and fish for salmon. I love hunting and fishing and they have been my favorite hobbies for as long as I could remember. The thing that I would enjoy the most would be how peaceful it would be just to be out in nature and leave everything else behind.
