I am a Stargazer!
Gazing into a clear evening sky is awe-inspiring. I am struck by the order and unfolding beauty of the constellations. This experience shapes my perspective and reality. I feel very small in comparison to the immensity of the universe. This experience has helped shape my view of God and put my day-to-day cares into proper perspective.
Simultaneously, as I am struck with the awe and wonder of what my eyes behold, an immediate internal dialogue arises within me. My mind usually goes to the meaning of my life, the longings of my heart, and the significance of my pursuits. Similarly, astronomers gaze through powerful telescopes and into the vastness of outer space and discover its infinitude. But, one might ask, why the gazing?
The pictures delivered through the telescope are breathtaking. The pictures leave us with a sense of awe at the complexity, design, and fine-tuning of the universe. The heavens compel us to gaze upward and reach
for something greater than ourselves. God, you must be! This is the heart cry of the wonder and mystery of the eternal within us. We are compelled to probe the internal questions of existence then. In essence, the quest of science leads to the great questions that philosophers probe. Why am I here? Is there a purpose and meaning to my life? Is there fulfillment?
As a pastor now for many years, I have observed it is a common experience at any age, but especially among the 20 something's, for there to be a pursuit of careers and family and some sort of life fulfillment. I don't think that anyone just sets out to see how "unfulfilling" that life can be. Our internal compass is seemingly set toward finding a sense of satisfaction and meaning in life. I believe that God has placed within us a compass that directs us toward knowing Him and knowing purpose.
The Christ Life has been written to help serious searchers discover their story and destiny through understanding the Bible or those simply who desire a better understanding of the Bible. Augustine of Hippo, a 4th-century philosopher, recognized this search and wrote about it very well in his Confessions, "You have made us for yourself, and our heart is restless until it rests in you". Augustine was correct, a restless heart only finds rest in the Creator. Therein, our meaning and purpose and ultimately real hope that is grounded in more than religion. It is grounded in the historical revelation of the incomprehensible yet knowable God revealed in the Bible.
Our deepest sense of satisfaction involves our personal transformation awaits your discovery of God’s kingdom purpose and your destiny in that purpose. Your God-ordained destiny can be discovered in the pages of the ancient book. It is indeed not only relevant for today but for your life today.
