Gregory V. Lowry

Walter J. Blenko, Sr. Professor

Bio

Dr. Greg Lowry is the Walter J. Blenko, Sr. Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He teaches courses in Environmental Fate and Transport of Organic Compounds in Aquatic Systems, Environmental Engineering, and Fundamentals of Water Quality Engineering.

He is an experimentalist with research interests in the broad areas of Environmental Chemistry and Remediation. He is currently working on a variety of fundamental and problem-driven research questions related to sustainable agriculture and environmental remediation. Specific current research projects include elucidating the relationships between particle physio-chemical characteristics and their uptake and translocation in plants and soils, developing novel materials for in situ groundwater remediation, understanding how Hg speciation controls its environmental fate, environmental forensics of nanoparticles, and developing soil contaminant detection methods for use on autonomous robotic samplers.
