My Dream
Becoming a head college football coach has always been my dream job. However, this goal is not easily attainable. I will first need to graduate high school. Another goal of mine is playing college football which I also plan to do. When I get to college I will be able to build my knowledge of football and academics. Once I graduate from my four-year college I will search for a graduate assistant position. I will make sure there is a master's program at the college I'm coaching at, so I can get my master's degree.
I'm an outside linebacker at South Brunswick High School. As a defensive player, I would like to assist the defensive side of the ball. Being versatile is a trait that will help me when I'm needed. Since I am open to coaching different positions, there will be more job opportunities. Once I have received my master's degree, I will begin my search for a full-time coaching position.
The median salary for a graduate assistant is $53,000. I should not have many expenses since I will just be coaching football, eating, doing schoolwork, and sleeping. I will take 5% of that money and invest it. Then, I will take another 5% and put it into a Roth IRA. Food, clothes, insurance, and utilities should take up most of the remaining money. Any money left over will either be invested in a low-risk mutual fund or saved.
There are not many resources necessary to enter this profession. You need to build good relations with coaches because later in life they could help you out. It is also common that when a head coach gets hired, he fires the old staff. If you have built a good relationship with him there is a possibility he will hire you. You also need to possess leadership qualities. Convincing a room of players that you will help the program succeed can be challenging. Although, if you are truly dedicated, you will prevail. It should take me 6 years to complete my master's degree. After I have it, I will start looking for a better job(usually an assistant coaching position). Finally, I will be a head college football coach!
Here's the problem, sometimes your first plan doesn't always work out. This is why I have a backup plan. I will make sure to minor in education. This will allow me to become a high school employee/ coach. Even though my goal is to be a college football coach, I will still be able to coach the sport I love. I still hope to get my master's degree, just in case there is a college job opportunity later down the road.
For the past two years, I have coached kids camps for local football organizations. I find that inspiring the next generation to succeed is the most fulfilling thing someone can do. In conclusion, I believe I am the best fit for this scholarship because I am determined to succeed. Thank you for taking the time to read this and letting me share my dreams. Thank you
