Week of 5/4/20

This is always one of my favorite weeks to work with the kiddos... The week before Mother's Day! I always try to do something super special that the kids can share with their mothers. This week, I want the guys to take over! Make a surprise for mom that your kids can present her with on Sunday. I will post a couple of pictures below to give you some ideas, but honestly, I know that the moms in your kiddos lives with just love anything they make for them... Have fun! And Happy Mother's Day to all you amazing mothers!!!!!

Week of 4/27/20

It is that time again! Time for more fun activities to do with your kiddos!!!!

https://otplan.com/activity/crumples/ I do this activity often in my sessions. I sometimes draw shapes (pumpkins in October, flowers in the spring, etc) and have the kids fill in the shape with tissue paper. It is a great activity that all the kids really enjoy...

https://otplan.com/activity/newspaper-dance/ - This is a really fun idea for some heavy work and core strengthening! I have no doubts that many of your kids would enjoy this activity as well.

https://tinkerlab.com/cloud-dough-exploration/ - I absolutely love cloud dough... Flour and oil are all the supplies you will need for hours of fun. I have done this with my own kids and they had a blast! Great sensory play...

As always, these activities are optional and are just here to help you out. If you are needing specific ideas, please let me know! I am still here for you and for your families to help however I can!

Week of 4/20/20

This week my heart is oh so sad... I am missing all my kiddos so very much! Our activity this week is creativity... I would love to just have a message from all of my kiddos... A written letter on paper, in shaving cream, a drawing or painting... Something! Let them get messy. Let them explore different mediums. Just let them do whatever they would like to do! Snap a picture and email it to me. I will post below some different ideas for mediums that you are welcome to explore.

Homemade sidewalk chalk paint using cornstarch - https://www.happinessishomemade.net/sidewalk-chalk-paint/

Homemade finger paint - https://tinkerlab.com/paint-recipe-kids-homemade-finger-paint/ (This uses flour so be mindful of allergies!)

Lots of different homemade art supplies listed on this page - https://www.craftymorning.com/list-homemade-art-supply-recipes/

Have fun this week... And please, let your sweet kiddos know exactly how much Mrs. Misty misses them and is ready to see them!

Week of 4/13/20

This week we will be using all those plastic Easter eggs that you have around the house right now!

Idea #1 - Remember that sensory bin from last week? Use the eggs to scoop up whatever items you used in that bin and explore the sounds and weight of different items within the eggs! It is a great way to add some tactile play into your day. You can fill them with rice, beans, pebbles, shaving cream, Easter grass, small toys. Really, just explore your house and I bet you can find items to put in there!

Idea #2 - I LOVE this scavenger hunt!!! Such a fun way to incorporate some movement into your fine motor activity.

Idea #3 - Draw out some ovals and have the kids color the top half one color and the bottom half another color. Then have them match the image using the halves of the Easter eggs! Great visual motor activity and bilateral coordination task that will feel like a game!

Idea #4 - Something just fun... How cute is this Easter egg artwork? Kids love being creative... This can be done on a piece of paper, or a canvas. But I know they will love it! Be sure to email me a picture of the final project if they do it! I would love to see all the amazing creations!

Week of 4/6/20

This is a great fine motor activity. Just draw shapes/lines on a piece of paper and have them place beads, pebbles, buttons, coins, or cotton balls on the lines to trace them! Really, whatever you have on hand will work. If you feel like they need some movement incorporated into the activity, place the items on one side of the room and have them bear/crab walk, crawl, or hop across the room to place the items onto the paper and do the same thing back to pick up more.

This is a great video on sensory bins. I love how she uses ordinary items in her bins. If you choose to use these, be sure to supervise your child so they are not putting things into their mouth.

This balloon ping pong game is a great, fun activity. It will help encourage visual motor tracking and hand/eye coordination. It also helps with balance, engages those core muscles, and helps with crossing midline too!
