This plan indicates the deficiencies within our parks and determines what is a priority.
The City of Greenwood Comprehensive Plan calls for the Freedom Park area to be a single-family residential area surrounding the park/open space.
Chapter 10 discusses the zoning ordinances for the City of Greenwood. Highlights:
According to their website:
This iceplex is very similar to the one being proposed for Greenwood. The facility is home to 4 NHL sized ice rinks, a Bill Grays Restaurant & Tap Room, Abbott's Frozen Custard, Coffee ETC Cafe, Iceplex Concessions, Locker Room, Sports Retail Hockey Store, Parisi Speed School, Legacy Global Sports Event Management, and a Visit Rochester Tourism Center. The map below shows them right off the interstate and close to hotels, restaurants, etc.; not among residential neighborhoods or inside a community park.
Advertised as one of the largest ice facilities in the Midwest, this iceplex has 2 professional rinks and 1 Olympic size rink to accommodate seating for 2,200. This iceplex is just over 115,000 square feet and offers similar amenities as you can see on their website. Located off a major highway and close to several commercial/retail businesses. Majority of profit is made from tournaments. *Owner has sold the facility, will be closing this year. Will become a golf facility.
Specs:
South Indy Hockey League pointed out this ice arena as a comparison during the 3/20/17 Council Meeting. Although it is located in Memorial Park, it is only 1 rink that is part of a true sports complex that includes a rec center, aquatic center, baseball, softball, and more. This is owned and ran by the City of Webster Groves. They close 5-6 weeks during the summer to melt the ice for maintenance purposes.
Specs:
This project has been compared to Westfield's Grand Park, as a comparable sports complex. I don't think we're comparing apples to apples here:
