Exploring and writing about the impacts of spending time in Treescapes for over 10 years, I previously co-ordinated the Good from Woods partnership research project. I've worked with a wide range of organisations to evaluate the impacts and outcomes of their work in green environments, with a focus on co-design of interdisciplinary and creative research designs for exploring these.
Within the Countryside and Community Research Institute I am Programme Manager of the Future of UK Treescapes £14.5 million research programme. Its aim is to improve the environmental, socio-economic, and cultural understanding of the functions and services provided by UK treescapes and inform decision-making on their expansion for the benefit of environment and society. I also work on a range of research projects focused on natural environments and human attitudes and behaviours towards them, including AHRC funded 'Changing Treescapes'.
I’ve been working with field recordings, electronica and sampling to create immersive audio experiences for 20 years. As a freelance musician and producer, I continue to work on a wide range of projects. I’ve created electronic-folk albums at sea and scored internationally toured theatre soundtracks for binaural listening. After participating in the AHRC funded project ‘Online Orchestra’ as a named researcher, I am currently working on a funded project with Dr Alice Goodenough of the Countryside and Community Research Institute. Project ‘Greensounds’ seeks to better understand links between wellness, policy, and listening through participant workshops in forestscapes, and immersive audio. I lead the MSc in Music and Sound production at the University of Gloucestershire, and also supervise PhD candidates who are broadly interested in sound, composition, production, field recording, or immersion.
