Formally known as the Athens Lunatic Asylum, The Ridges now sits mostly abandoned with certain parts of it used by Ohio University as offices and storage. The Ridges encompasses both the Kirkbride building, the surrounding buildings, and a large area of land that was once used for farming when the asylum was open. It also contains Radar hill the site of a former World War Two defense radar site.
