About us:
The Green Genıus is a team for soilless agriculture project. These projects which are being carried out under the mentorship of the "Women Science Teachers" portal, aims to provide easier access to food for future generations and aims to work towards this end. The project is consists of 2 projects. One of them is "Endemic Plants of Istanbul". The other of them “Sustainable Hydroponic Farming of Microgreens” . We are Elif Kırmacı , Eylül Top and Yağmur Akar from Yeni Levent Anatolian High School, Istanbul- Türkiye .
2ndSTEAM Online Conference for Students
We presented our project ,"Sustainable Hydroponic Farming of Microgreens”, in the "2.STEAM Online Conference for Students" in 25.04.2025 organised by "Women Science Teachers".
GREEN GENIUS was in PLANT FACTORY
We, " Green Genius" , visited the "Plant Factory" company to get information about soilless agriculture. We got great experience from "Plant Factory" company.
We created “Sustainable Hydroponic Farming of Microgreens” project for BIEA (British International Education Association) International STEM Youth Innovation Competition. The BIEA International STEM Youth Innovation Competition is a dynamic global initiative for students aged 6 to 21, organised by the British International Education Association (BIEA) and supported by the UK’s leading scientific and educational institutions, including University College London, Imperial College London, and the Royal Institution. This year our thema is " Food security through sustainable intensicification."
We worked on "Micro greens". In this project, we found new solution for micro greens.
We use sensors in our system. These sensors check the temperature, the pH level, and the EC (electric conductivity). The sensors send this data to our mobile app. The app shows this data in real time. People can open their phone and see the numbers easily. The app can also send messages. For example, if the plants need water, the app gives a funny message. It says: “Oh no! I didn’t drink any water today!” This makes the app more fun to use. People smile when they read these messages. The app can also send messages. For example, if the plants need water, the app gives a funny message. It says: “Oh no! I didn’t drink any water today!” This makes the app more fun to use. People smile when they read these messages. We can also control the water pump with the app. If we want to give water to the plants, we can do it from our phone. We don’t need to be in the same place. This is smart farming. It saves time and helps us care for the plants better.
GREEN GENIOUS was in TUBITAK Science Fair
We presented "Endemic Plants of Istanbul" in the TUBITAK Science Fair. (20.04.2025)
Endemic Plants of Istanbul
Endemic plants, which are specific to certain regions, are plants that are not naturally found anywhere else. These plants occur in a limited area due to geographical isolation and other factors. Endemic plants have different characteristics from other plants in that region because they are specific to the ecological structure and climatic conditions of a certain region.
Istanbul, which is a natural bridge between Asia and Europe in terms of geography, hosts more plant species than many countries such as England, Poland, and the Netherlands.
In this study, we have shown 14 endemic plants of Istanbul and the places where they live on the map of Istanbul. These plants and the areas where they live are as follows.
• Euphorbia amygdaloide, Istanbul forests
• Istanbul Nazendesi (Lathyrus undulatus), Istanbul
• Cornflower (Centaurea hermanii), Çatalca
• Hoşkangal (Cirsium byzantinum), Istanbul
• Kilyos Button (Centaurea kilaea), Kilyos
• Riva Mullein (Verbascum degenii), Riva
• Sand Belumotu (Asperula littoralis), Black Sea coast sand dunes
• Comfrey (Symphytum pseudobulbosum), Istanbul forests
• Ümraniye Crocus (Crocus pestalozzae), Ümraniye
• Bosphorus Flax (Linum tauricum subsp), Bosphorus
• Sultan Pelemiri (Cephalaria tuteliana), Ispartakule
• Delicate Bitter Crocus (Colchicum micranthum), Istanbul forests
• Istanbul Snowdrop (Galanthus byzantinus), Istanbul forests
• Butterflyweed (Isatis arenaria), Black Sea sand dunes
These endemic plants are facing the danger of extinction due to irregular urbanization and environmental pollution.
Our aim in this project is to raise awareness for the necessary precautions to be taken for the transfer of these endemic plants to future generations
We created digital games on endemic plants of Istanbul. Scan them and start your journey!!! Are you ready!!!
