Where I’m From

I am from the land of many skies

Burnt orange, cool blue, hot summer red

I am from roasted green chile

Slow roasting, smoking flavor in the local parking lot

I am from Sundays in the winter

Nine hour days, the gridiron greatness

The pigskin never disappoints, my favorite of days

I am from home-cooked meals

Bizcochitos, tortillas, tamales, enchiladas, and flautas

I am from the land of enchantment

Though small and irrelevant, it is home to me

I am from a town full of “what ifs?”

And “remember when?”

Finally, I’ve made it to the promised land

Sixty miles south to the university I always dreamed about
