The growing urgency to address climate change has placed sustainability at the forefront of software engineering. Software systems contribute significantly to global energy consumption, and software architecture plays a critical role in enabling energy-efficient, carbon-aware, and sustainable systems.
GreenArch 2027 aims to bring together researchers and practitioners to explore architectural principles, patterns, and tools that support sustainability without compromising key quality attributes such as performance, scalability, and reliability. Building on the success of its first edition, the workshop fosters knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the development of a research and practice roadmap for green and carbon-aware software architecture.
The workshop invites contributions (theoretical, empirical, or experience-based) in, but not limited to, the following areas:

Carbon-aware and energy-efficient architectural styles
Sustainability-driven architectural decision-making
Trade-offs between sustainability and other quality attributes (e.g., performance, security)
B. Sustainable Orchestration of Distributed AI and Edge-Cloud Architectures Metrics, Evaluation, and Tool Support
Metrics and benchmarks for energy and carbon impact
Simulation and modeling tools for sustainability assessment
Automated analysis and optimization of green architectures
C. Deployment and Operational Strategies
Carbon-aware deployment in cloud, edge, and IoT environments
Dynamic adaptation for energy efficiency
Integration of renewable energy sources in software systems
D. Emerging Technologies and Sustainability
Green AI and machine learning architectures
Blockchain for sustainable systems
Digital twins for sustainability monitoring
E. Case Studies and Industrial Experiences

Best Paper Award: Based on the quality of the submission, comments and reviews feedback from the reviewers, a submission may be awarded best paper award. The winners of the best paper awards will be announced in a dedicated Awards Session during the main conference.
The GreenArch 2027 workshop invited submissions in three categories, each emphasizing a unique perspective on sustainable and carbon-aware software architecture.
Full Papers: 8-page papers presenting original research contributions, comprehensive case studies, or detailed industrial experiences addressing software architecture for sustainability.
Short Papers: 4-page papers introducing innovative ideas, preliminary results, or novel techniques that contribute to sustainable software architecture but are not yet fully validated.
Position Papers: 2-page papers intended to stimulate discussion and debate by presenting new perspectives, emerging challenges, or conceptual frameworks related to carbon-aware and green software systems.
Workshop organizers are responsible for managing submissions and the review process.
All submissions must:
Follow the IEEE CS proceedings format,
Be written in English and not exceed 8 pages.
Be submitted electronically in PDF format via EasyChair (Select the ICSA 2027 track Second International Workshop on Software Architecture for Green Software Systems (GreenArch2027)
Accepted papers will be published in the ICSA 2027 Companion Proceedings and made available in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.
Important note: No changes to the list of authors are allowed after submission.
Every paper underwent peer review by at least three expert reviewers from academia and industry.
Reviewers evaluated submissions based on:
Originality and novelty
Technical depth and rigor
Relevance to sustainability and software architecture
Potential research and industrial impact
Final decisions were made collaboratively by the Workshop Chairs and Program Committee following online discussions.
All accepted papers will be:
Published in the ICSA 2027 Companion Proceedings, IEEE Computer Society.
Indexed and available through the IEEE Xplore Digital Library.
