As important an issue as environmentally friendly infrastructure is to urban areas, there remain few ways to concretely evaluate the environmental friendliness of a city's infrastructure. For this reason, we introduce a rating system capable of this task. This system is an excel macro-enabled workbook that calculates an index based on ten key issues indicating the sustainability of the infrastructure of a specific area. Copies of this workbook can be made available to anyone upon request. Below are instructions on obtaining and using this workbook.

Obtaining the Workbook
To receive a copy of this spreadsheet, please email tjmahay@syr.edu and ask for a copy of the Urban Environmental Infrastructure Rating System.
Entering the Evaluation Parameters
As you begin your evaluation, you must click the 'New Evaluation' button then enter the name of the city you are evaluating, the ZIP code, and your name. The sheet will record the evaluation date automatically.
Evaluating the Site
The ten issues listed can be evaluated by clicking the 'yes', 'no', or 'N/A' checkboxes. If 'yes' applies, then make sure to also rate the issue on a scale from 1-10, with 10 being the most ideal while a 1 indicates that an issue is adressed, but only as poorly as possible. Clicking 'no' returns a value of zero for the criteria while clicking 'N/A' adds the issue to the 'Null Issues' count and strikes the issue from the max possible points and environmental index calculations, meaning it should be clicked when a question does not apply to the city being evaluated. The Environmental Index will be calculated when the 'Calculate' button is clicked and will receive a value from 0 to 1 with 1 being the best possible result.

Removes all data from evaluation.
Save Button
Creates a copy sheet of the master sheet
Useful for logging a site's progress over time
E-mail Button
Used for sending an email of a saved sheet
Recipient email address and subject line must be entered
