“Green Savvy" is an app designed to guide users in reducing waste and adopting sustainable living practices. It offers comprehensive disposal and recycling information. What makes "Green Savvy" unique is its ability to allow users to add action goals based on the specific items they’ve searched to dispose of or recycle. These tailored goals encourage users to take actionable steps, rewarding progress and helping them develop eco-friendly habits that contribute to environmental protection in a practical and impactful way.
“Green Savvy" is a combination of two words: "Green" signifies being environmentally friendly, and "Savvy" means being knowledgeable and well-informed. Together, "GreenSavvy" implies individuals who are well-versed in and actively practicing environmental sustainability.
The app starts by allowing users to create an account through a simple sign-up process or log in if they already have an account. After logging in, users can access the main page, where they can use the camera button or search button to find information about items they wish to dispose of, which is one of the app's key features.
The app includes an image recognition feature that allows users to take a photo of an item they want to dispose of. By pressing the camera button on the main page, users are directed to a page where they can activate the camera to take a picture of the item. The app then identifies the item and provides detailed information on how to properly dispose of it. Additionally, it suggests sustainable actions users can take, along with a breakdown of the environmental impact, such as waste reduction, CO2 emissions reduction, and landfill use reduction, resulting from those actions.
Users who prefer to search manually can use the search button, located next to the camera button on the main page, to look up items they wish to dispose of. Through the search function, users can access the same detailed disposal instructions and suggested sustainable actions that they would receive by taking a photo with the camera. This feature also includes a breakdown of the environmental impact, helping users understand the positive effects of their choices.
At the end of the 'Disposal Instructions' and 'Sustainable Actions' sections, users will find a "See Details" button. By clicking this button, they can open a popup that provides more in-depth information on each disposal method and sustainable action. Additionally, just below the 'Sustainable Actions' section on the results page, there's an "Add to My Actions List" button that allows users to easily add these personalized, practical "Sustainable Actions." These actions are tailored to help users reduce waste from items they've previously searched for, and they represent commitments users have made to incorporate these practices into their daily lives.
The "My Actions List" page serves as a personalized tracking tool where users can see all the sustainable actions they have added. Each action is associated with an "Action" button, which users can click once they’ve completed the action. Completing actions awards users with "Impact" points. As users accumulate these points, they can unlock badges, providing a sense of accomplishment and encouraging continued eco-friendly behavior. This feature helps users track and implement sustainable actions that are most relevant and achievable in their daily lives.
The Progress Page serves as a motivational tool by visually displaying the user’s achievements. It provides the total Impact Points earned by the user, along with a graph that offers a clear overview of their progress. The page also displays badges earned when certain point thresholds are reached. Additionally, at the bottom of the page, users can find the "Actions Completed" list, which provides a comprehensive overview of all completed Sustainable Actions, including details like the number of times each action was completed and the Impact Points earned. These features together help users reflect on their sustainability journey, understand which actions had the most significant impact, and plan future efforts.
This section of the app is dedicated to education and practical guidance. Users can browse different categories such as plastic, glass, paper, electronics, and more to learn about the proper disposal methods and sustainable alternatives for various items. The app also provides detailed information on local collection sites where users can drop off hazardous waste, electronics, food scraps, textiles, plastic bags, and metal scraps. For each site, the app offers location details, operating hours, and map directions, making it easy for users to find the nearest drop-off location.
