The Creative Campus@Goddard and the historic Plainfield Little Theater have joined forces to reimagine Shakespeare in the Haybarn Theater, reviving a cherished tradition of performance and community.
Plainfield Little Theater, active in Vermont since 1930, has a rich legacy of concerts, plays, and musicals—including beloved Gilbert & Sullivan operettas and original works by local playwrights. After decades of shaping Central Vermont’s cultural life, the company’s spirit returns to the stage in partnership with Goddard College, itself a beacon of progressive arts and education.
This new Shakespeare festival, with Tom Blachly as artistic director, not only celebrates the timeless power of the Bard’s work, but also embraces the future of theater by spotlighting new voices. As part of the initiative, the Green Mountain New Play Festival, curated by Erin Galligan Baldwin, has been incorporated into the season—showcasing bold, original plays from emerging and established writers.
This commitment to both classic and contemporary work creates a vibrant, inclusive space where tradition meets innovation, and where audiences can experience the full spectrum of theatrical storytelling.
Together, the Haybarn, Plainfield Little Theater, and the Creative Campus are reigniting a legacy—bringing Shakespeare to life while making space for the next generation of playwrights.
