The Assignment

In English 1101, locating credible and appropriate research sources is important. We will work as a class to create a digital research guide for students writing source-based essays on the film The Great Debaters. Each student will be responsible for finding three sources and writing an annotation.

The project needs:

Film summary paragraph
Subject /topic subheadings
Images of the real Wiley debate team

Students need to serve as:

Project manager
Page managers/Designers
Editors
Image researchers

The Great Debaters project counts as participation. The objective is to practice looking for sources and presenting research on a digital platform. Students are working on group projects based on this model. The assignment for the graded group project is below:

A research guide is an organized collection of resources related to a certain topic

For this assignment, you will work in teams of 4-5 members. Your objective is to create a Research Guide for students at Augusta University. You will use Google Sites to build a website. The website is the platform for your research guide. Groups will draw numbers and be assigned topics:

Diversity at Augusta University (Multicultural Center, student groups, data and facts on student/faculty population, awards, programming, etc.)
Greek Life at Augusta University (Fraternities and Sororities on campus, their community service, their social aspects)
Creativity and Innovation at Augusta University (i.e. Mary Byrd Gallery, Maxwell PAT, Cinema Series, Lyceum, Sculpture Lab and 3-D printing, etc.)
Support Services at Augusta University (i.e. Library, Academic Success, Writing Center, IT, CARE, Title IX, Dean of Students, etc.)

Your website should include

Home page with a Descriptive title
About this Guide page (Include team members' names on this page, too)
Minimum of 4 content pages with descriptions, links to resources, phone numbers, photographs
Photographs of students, buildings, services (Be sure to get permission of humans featured)
Survey Form to collect data from users accessing the website
Research sources (could be external to AU, i.e. national websites for Greek organizations or Title IX) you recommend users read for more information)
Extra credit: Video of team member(s) introducing or explaining topic(s)
