This location has been heavily impacted by humans over time, even being monitored to have a steady decline in health since the mid 1980’s.

Specifically, the coral reefs undergo a process called bleaching caused by a variety of different products that are mass produced for consumers that actually cause the coral to die out and become a bleached color. This is especially important because of the long instilled symbiotic relationship that people have with nature that is being tattered by the increasing UV rays from global water temp rise. While the uses and space have not been changed the sight of up to 30% of the Great Barrier Reef being “bleached” is a serious change becoming more visible over time.
