✅ HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS

San Antonio and surrounding Independent School Districts may register their third-grade classes to participate in The Great S.A. Reading Challenge.  Each school registered is a team!

• Schools must sign up and register by October 3, 2025.  

All schools can access classroom posters, reading logs, and more on the Educator Resources page.

  • Action Items from the meeting:

    • ✅Register 3rd grade classrooms by October 3rd.

    • ✅ Enter reading minutes every Monday by 4pm.

    • ✅Identify two campus representatives to manage the reading log and minute submissions.

    • ✅Provide information on campus kickoff events by October 13th for a chance to have Clifford the Big Red Dog visit.

    • ✅ (optional) Order the "I Survived the Attacks of September 11th" book from Scholastic to participate in the one-book challenge.

✅ Registration & Entering Minutes⏱️

Each school will need to sign up a “Coach” who will be the main point of contact.  

The “Coach” will need to:

• Register their School (a.k.a. their Team) and 3rd-grade classrooms.  

• Enter all minutes read every week. 

  • All minutes read must be entered on the form to be counted towards advancement. 

  • Minutes must be entered by 4:30 p.m. each Monday (unless Monday is a holiday, minutes are due the next day)

🎉 Prizes

• Prizes will be awarded based on the teams with the highest average minutes. 

• The top teams in each round will be announced on Wednesdays.   

  • All teams are encouraged to continue reading through the end of the competition, with the opportunity to improve and move up in the rankings, week by week.  

• The top 4 individual readers will be selected based on total minutes read and do not have to be on a top team.

📖 Pre-Season reading - just for practice - Oct 27 – 31, 2025

• This is a time to practice; remember that this is pre-season, so the minutes will not count until the regular season.

Regular Reading Season BEGINS - November 3, 2025 - START reading and logging your minutes!

Regular Reading Season ENTERING MINUTES BEGINS - November 10, 2025, by 4:30 pm (2-month reading season)

Regular Reading Season ENDS - January 5, 2026 (since this Monday is a school holiday, minutes are due the next day)
