Mayfield School

Mayfield School, at 290 Greasby Road, was operating in the late1930s through to the 1950s. Its Head was Miss Kate Cowell who taught all ages and subjects in the one classroom. Her sister lived with her and helped at the school sometimes.

Sometimes the pupils would be taken to Upton Cricket Club to play games. One ex-pupil remembers the whole school being taken by bus to Levers to see how soap was made.

Kate Cowell later married a publican called Matthew.

Some people remember there being a maypole in the rear garden.

If you have any photos from the time that the building was the school please make contact and share them.
