Demons are a race of creature descended from the deeps of space. Though some were born on Earth, the term "demons" is mostly used in human err as they are not truly akin to anything described within human religious contexts (such an beings of Hell) and are more accurately extra terrestrials or simply earthlings. Those like like great Archdemon Antistrophe sometimes walk among humans in everyday life or are able to disguise themselves as they choose and thereby avoid unwanted attention or suspicion. Other demons, due to their striking appearances or reputations tend to be more secretive about their endeavors. Some, such as the crossbreed Kazen Reddick (so-named in being only half demon), cohabitate with humans quite seamlessly. As such it is worth noting that contrary to popular belief, demons are not all agents of evil or chaos, though most have their own way of exerting influence over humans (and often each other). One of their most interesting interactions with humans is forming pacts with them (by an act sometimes called the Demon's Kiss), usually offering to bestow upon the human some sort of boon or supernatural ability, or to fulfill certain desires in exchange for protection, information, or even physical indulgence.
Nexus Events
Though largely imperceptible to humans, a phenomenon unforeseen by Radiance or Antistrophe began to occur after the Overneath membrane was sealed which came to be called a Nexus Event. A Nexus Event is a naturally occurring thinning of the separating membrane through which demons are able to perceive certain parts of the Earth and communicate through the barrier. If and where these events can be predicated, demons often gather to catch glimpses of the world which they once shared. There are some, however, that use this as a convenient mechanism by which to gain the invitation to cross over to Earth.
Demon Species
Multifarion: Demons with multiple forms, usually a humanoid form and a more primal, beast-like form. They also have incredibly long lifespans, some surviving for thousands of years.
Arturo, Riven, Cirogaan, Azulon, and Bolero
Aternal- Jet black-skinned creatures of shadow, mostly solitary creatures. These demons are usually immortal.
Demon of Woe, Knave, and Antistrophe
Giants- The largest species of demon, sometimes known for their brutality.
Vendetta
Mosaic- Crossbreeds, only half demon. Note that as far as it has been studied that only female demons can successfully bare a Mosaic newborn. Human women generally die during the pregnancy.
Kazen Reddick, Sartre, and Antal
Metamorphic- A very rare subspecies that can take most any form they choose. Antistrophe is also a Metamorphic.
“Arturo”, the Moon Demon
Arturo is an example of a species of demons commonly known as Multifarious Demons. The most notable distinction of these demons is their having multiple physical forms (usually two). One form is generally more humanoid, while the other, the True Demon Form, is often noted as feral or beast-like. Arturo assumes his feral form during times of great anger, bloodlust, or even sorrow. His body becomes engorged by several times his normal size, his talons on hand and feet become longer and sharper, and he undergoes a number of other physical changes that make him much more fearsome and terrifying.
Arturo took his name from the first human lover that he ever took, who unfortunately died as a result of the breaking of their demonic pact. Arturo considered himself deeply in love with this human and it was not for another hundred years or so before he would attempt the Demon’s Kiss with another: Remy Rocher.
Riven, the Stargazer
Riven is the younger brother of Arturo. More lore on the way!
Cirogaan, The Golden
Cirogaan, or "Ciro", is the much older cousin of Arturo, although possessing a wildly different temperament in that Cirogaan is self-serving, manipulative, and malevolent at times. He is also a multifarious demon, though few have seen his True Demon Form. Cirogaan is the only known demon that can travel back and forth between realms, mainly Earth and Overneath, as he pleases. This alone makes him dangerous and unpredictable. He is also rather unusual as he is one of few demons who flourishes in daylight and draws power from solar radiation.
Cirogaan is vain and cruel, believing that he was born of the sun. Whether or not this is true, his might is truly great.
The Demon of Woe
Perhaps one of the most frightening demons to live in Overneath is the Demon of Woe. Even feared by some demon clans, he is capable of forcing his victims to relive the most agonizing moments of their lives repeatedly, and as if they were at fault for them. Most who encounter him ultimately succumb to madness.
Vendetta
Vendetta is terrifying not only due to his immense size but also his thirst for chaos and violence. His most notable ability is that of inspiring thoughts of revenge in otherwise gentle minds and hearts. He views humans as his "playthings" and has been known to hunt them for sport. Most do not survive any sort of physical encounter with him as he may opt to simply have his way and then consume them. While in combat with Tafari Makemba, Vendetta ripped off his arm and ate it.
Azulon, Watcher of Worlds
Azulon is an elusive demon who touts his own beauty as a blessing and most certainly an advantage. He may come across as vain at times and resents being commanded, but genuinely believes in seeking peace and order between demon and humankind. He is at his most magnificent when his prismatic scales glisten while he swims and bathes in the waters of Overneath. He is quite clever in knowing the value of information and generally favors anyone who will listen to his wise words.
The Covetous Knave
An Aternal Demon. There is, so far, little known about the Knave but that he is often attracted to the mad and grief-stricken humans of Earth. He is a creature of indulgence and wholeheartedly encourages the whims of others, even if those whims would lead down dark and violent paths. He is also a talented thief and revels in stealing things that people most value for his own amusement.
Desolate Sartre and Hallowed Antal
Two Mosaic Demons that conspired to infiltrate the Order of Radiance and became infamous for a series of murders that took the lives of many lesser angels in Caelum and one of the Archangels in the Order. They are both part angel, though now given over to corrupting influence of Antistrophe who welcomed them with open arms. Radiance decreed they both be beheaded and their bodies disposed of on Earth. However, they had not grown so cold before Antistrophe ordered that the Demon Lord Hume reanimate them. Hume kept various relics of Caelum as trophies for victories against the angels and placed helms on their shoulders so that they might "keep their heads held on high". This was, of course, an act of mockery toward Caelum. Sartre and his counterpart are now deadly sentinels of Overneath. Sartre is a particularly gifted assassin who wields a glimmering golden rifle, while Antal is quite skilled with both angelic and demonic mysticism. Though companions in Caelum, they somehow grew somewhat resentful of each other in their reanimated states.
Bolero
Bolero is another young demon born in Overneath. Though good-natured and friendly, he is generally only interested in seeking out his own pleasures. He has a particular fascination with Cirogaan the Golden despite his propensity for more evil deeds.
