Welcome to the project page for the Grave Marking Committee
of the Mecklenburg Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution.
This ongoing project was created in 2022 in conjunction with the America 250 and the Historic Preservation Committees in order to continue our chapter's work to find, preserve, fix, clean, and mark local Revolutionary War Patriot grave sites. The expected timeline of this project is 5 to 10 years.
Project goals:
Identify unmarked and hard to find or lost grave sites of Revolutionary War veterans and patriots
Research the patriot's service record, residence, and birth/death dates for accuracy
Update FindAGrave.com records and local historical society files with correct information about these patriots and cemeteries
Locate descendants to share the findings
Host a marker dedication, cleaning work day, and other events which include descendants, church members, and other interested people.
Continue to monitor these grave sites for future safe keeping and maintenance
The following list of patriots have been selected for this project and a DAR marker will be installed similar to those shown in the slideshow above.
We have chosen a Paypal Giving Fund to collect contributions. Each individual grave marker will cost $600. In some cases, the grave site may allow for a ceremony to dedicate this marker, and if so, those ceremony dates and details will also be listed below.
Additional funds are needed for some grave sites which are located in forgotten or neglected cemeteries in need of repairs to the fencing, signage, or broken grave stones. Most of the gravestones require extensive cleaning using special products. Our volunteers consult with professionals who are trained in this area and have experience cleaning gravestones.
