Granite is the most popular material used to upgrade countertops. Below are some pros and cons about granite:

Pros:

-Lots of character

-Unique, no two slabs are exactly the same

-Beautiful movement and veins

-Usually lower cost than other materials (i.e marble and quartz)

-Wider selection of colors

-Heat resistant

Cons

-No monocromatic colors

-More visible seams with certain colors

-Should be resealed every year

-In some cases, might stain

Quartz/Engineered Stone

Quartz is the new kid on the block. Quartz is gaining popularity due to its many benefits

Pros:

Offers colors that are not available with granite

Stain resistant

Color is the same from one slab to the other

Can look and feel like marmol, but it’s much more durable and easy to maintain

It’s a man-made material and some consider it to be more eco-friendly

Resealing not required

Cons:

Not as heat resistant as granite (be careful with hot pots and pans)

Smaller slabs, may need to purchase extra slab(s) and extra joins for larger kitchens

Not as easy to fix as granite

Usually more costly than granite
