Melissa Mergy, a National Board Certified educator and graduate of Lyon College has worked for the Batesville School District since 2006. She earned her Special Education and Leadership Specialist from Arkansas State University and is a Special Education teacher at Sulphur Rock Elementary School. This is where she has gained knowledge about the struggles grandparents and great grandparents tasked with being the primary caregivers of their school aged grandchildren. Often times caregivers are struggling even though they are living within their means. When this is the case, they may need help paying for education related activity expenses for their grandchildren. Grandparents should not have the burden of explaining to their grandchildren why they cannot participate or have access to educational related activities. This is what Grandhands.org is all about and it is their call to action.
