Introduction

Michael Scipioni

My name is Michael Scipioni and I graduated from Appalachian State University in December, 2022. I have received my Masters degree in Political Science, with a concentration in Comparative Politics/International Relations. While taking part in this program, I have also completed the graduate program for a certificate in College and University Teaching. I am expected to graduate in December 2022, and I am currently pursuing PhD programs in political science.

This site features my graduate portfolio, which I completed for final review by the faculty of  Appalachian State University. The tabs above provide access to several of my assignments, assessments, and achievements during my graduate program. Within this site you will find:

-A term paper, which includes revisions and edits to demonstrate academic growth and ability to incorporate feedback while part of the program.

-Artifacts, which includes various assignments showcasing different skills and abilities. These artifacts include term papers, book reviews, essays, presentations, and peer reviews. In addition, there are encyclopedia entries which I have completed for publication in the new Encyclopedia of Critical Political Science.

-A review of internship projects. One is a PowerPoint that was presented to the organization I interned with. The other is a copy of my internship presentation poster which was presented to the school of Government and Justice Studies.

-An overview of my time as a graduate assistant. This includes a review of the work I've done alongside ASU faculty.

-A section, with sub-tabs, for my work in the higher education program. This includes my main projects required to receive my Graduate Certificate in College and University Teaching.

-My resume, cover letter, and references are all included in the final tab.

During my time in the graduate program I have developed several academic and professional skills, particularly through production of research projects. In the tabs above a wide range of projects can be found, showcasing my skills in research methods and design, engagement with and application of theoretical concepts, and academic analysis within my concentration of comparative politics and international relations. My analytical and conceptual skills can be seen through the several research papers and projects I have produced.

My written skills are exemplified through the quality of work as the result of several revisions and incorporation of feedback. Oral skills can be gleaned from the several presentations conducted for classes and internships. My professional skills were heightened by my time as an intern with a non-profit organization, and time spent working alongside faculty in the graduate assistantship. These academic products were properly documented and cited, and tailored to appropriate audiences, whether they be professors, instructors, employers, students, or fellow classmates.
