Gases

Just like solids and liquids, gases are a form of matter. What makes them unique is their ability to increase in size to fill any container. Water is a great example of a substance that you are familiar with that moves from a solid, to liquid to gas.

To get a sense of how water turns to a gas and back into a liquid, ask for help from your parents to boil some water in a pot on the stove. When the water is boiling, what do you see? You might notice some steam but becareful it will be very hot!! This is water in the form a gas. Turn off the heat and put a lid on the pot. What do you notice when you lift the lid as the water cools?
