Senior high school (SHS) is the last two years of the K to 12 basic education program in the Philippines. It is a period of transition from adolescence to adulthood, and it is a time for students to explore their interests, develop their skills, and prepare for their future.

The K to 12 curriculum was created to address the following concerns:

• The mismatch between the skills of graduates from the basic education system and the demands of the labor market.

• The high number of students who drop out of school before completing high school.

• The lack of opportunities for students to develop their talents and skills in the arts, sports, and other areas.

• Provide students with the knowledge, skills, and values they need to be successful in college, career, and life.

• Help students develop their talents and interests.

• Prepare students for the demands of the 21st century workforce.

• Promote lifelong learning.
