My Finnish colleague gives her students math tests, too. She tells her students that she tests them because she wants to know what they know. She wants to alleviate any stress that might accompany these assessments.
My eyes shifted back and forth from the American math test to the Finnish math test. Both of these tests were given at approximately the same time during the school year, but they looked very different from each other.
Burris made a startling observation as she studied this first grade math test. The publisher of the first grade math curriculum (where the test comes from) is Pearson. This is the same company that designs standardized tests for most New York students in grades three through eight. In 2010, Pearson inked a 5-year contract with the state of New York for 32 million dollars (US).
Released tests are representative of the content and skills included in the Virginia SOL tests and are provided to assist in understanding the format of the tests and questions. Test item sets rather than full released tests are being provided for some SOL courses since the test item bank for those courses cannot support a full release. Raw score to scaled score tables cannot be provided for the test item sets because they do not represent full test forms. Likewise, a raw score to scaled score table cannot be provided for the MC/TEI component of the End-of-Course Writing test because it does not represent a full test form.
The online version of the tests or test item sets is no longer available since the test delivery software has changed. The PDF version will contain the answer key for all items in the test or test item set.
The PDF documents for tests and test item sets released in spring 2015 and spring 2014 show images of the test items as they appeared in an online test format. Due to variability in computer monitors, color in an item may appear differently on one monitor as compared to another.

AASA is the statewide achievement test for Arizona students in Grades 3-8. All Arizona public school students in Grades 3-8 will take the grade level AASA assessments in English Language Arts and Mathematics.
Arizona's test development process involves an extensive review before an item will count toward students' test scores. During the item-development process, all assessment items are written in accordance with Item Specifications. A committee of Arizona educators reviews and approves the items to confirm alignment and appropriateness for inclusion on the test. Each step in the process is designed to ensure that test results are valid, reliable, and appropriate for Arizona students, families, and other members of Arizona communities. Participating educators are representatives of Arizona's geographic regions and represent culturally diverse populations. Test Administration InformationSpring 2024 Testing ModeThe Testing Mode Application was open in ADEConnect September 18 - October 13, 2023.All Achievement testing (AASA, AzSCI, ACT, and ACT Aspire) is, by default, administered to students by computer. Requests for schools to administer paper tests must be received within ADEConnect within the above window.
Special Paper Version Tests Special Paper Version (SPV) tests are available for students unable to use a computer based on their daily instruction and IEP or 504 plan. SPV tests include Braille, large print, and regular print paper tests.
Using the tests will allow you to tailor the instruction to help the child/student right where they need help the most. You can EASILY find out if your student has not learned specific topics, because the tests group the questions by topic. Just look at the test results per "sections" of similar problems (addition, multiplication, measuring, geometry, place value, problem solving).
Sometimes, a student who is seriously behind can get a low score on even THREE subsequent tests. Basically, their skills and knowledge are "all over the place" so to speak. Such students can benefit from a tailored approach where the materials they will study will be exactly matched to the gaps they have.
One more important thing. To reduce the test-taking stress, don't put any strict time limit for the completion of the test. We don't want students to build any anxiety over this placement test or tests. Now, some children have already developed anxiety towards test-taking and/or towards math in general. In such cases, it might be best to avoid even these tests, or at least postpone the test-taking until the anxiety has subsided somewhat.
The international versions are formatted to A4 paper size, use a space for thousands separator (35 230), and only use metric units. The tests for grades 1 and 2 include a section on counting coins, which is with Australian currency. The rest of the tests don't have questions about coins or bills, and use the "$" symbol for currency.
Tip: If you notice your child has problems with one or two concept areas in a particular test, but otherwise does fine, you can use Math Mammoth Blue Series books to "fill in those gaps". You can also email me with your test results if you have trouble deciding which Blue Series book you should use for such remedial work.
Background: the student began homeschooling the same year as the tests were taken and is technically in 7th grade. She had started doing Teaching Textbooks Algebra 1. However, the parent noticed that she didn't know some basic fraction information, decided to look for a supplement, and came across Math Mammoth.
The student took three end-of-year tests: for grade 6, grade 5, and grade 4. She did not do very well in the grade 6 test, but you can see her work for grade 4 and grade 5 tests in the links below. If you decide to send me your child's test results, it is not necessary to send me the complete test like this person did, but it makes a good example. Most people send me only the point counts for the various test items.

The Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) is designed to measure student achievement in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and US History. Students are assessed in grades 3 through 8 in English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics, grades 5 and 8 Science, Algebra I, Biology I, English II, and US History. The results of all MAAP assessments provide information to be used for the improvement of student achievement.

For KSA, students receive a separate scale score and performance level (distinguished, proficient, apprentice, and novice). Writing scores will include editing and mechanics and on-demand writing, along with an overall combined writing score. Scale scores are reported as numbers, while performance levels are descriptive. Performance levels are different by content area. These levels indicate performance on groups of items that measure similar skills. Information on Accessibility Features and Accommodations The full list of accessibility features and accommodations for the MCAP Assessments can be found in the Maryland Assessment Accessibility & Accommodations Policy Manual. Answer masking, color contrast (background/font color) and text-to-speech for mathematics, are available for all participating students who need these tools, but need to be identified in advance via the Personal Needs Profile (PNP).
