We welcome all contributions, be it financially or in kind.
While the church as a community through the diocese office underwrites the cost of managing the home, it is the intention of the Board of Management to also provide opportunities to individuals who have a special interest in the care of the elderly to participate directly, that is to "practice charity" in an area close to their heart.
Volunteering is not only for the greater good of others but for your own well-being too! Research has shown that it helps ward off feelings of loneliness.
With this in mind, there are several programmes run by Graceville to provide exposure to the needs of the elderly and to educate the our community members (Catholics).
Activities
Cook a meal for the Elderly - share your gift of a home cook meal with the residents of the home. Cook a meal for them either at home and bring it to Graceville to serve and share a meal with them. The residents including the priest feel the love you have when you take the trouble to cook food for them and share the meal with them.
Exercise with the elderly - the residents need to move around and to keep their limbs limber to stay physically fit. This routine can be quite boring alone. encouragement and someone accompanying them is one of the best gifts to show you care.
Social time with the elderly -
Social time to simply say hello and to have a conversation with the residence perhaps to even play simple card games or have an activity like painting, a karaoke session etc are highly valued activities by the elders.
Do contact our administrator if you would like to get involved.
