Aquaculture and Compassion for the Poor (ACP)
To the left are tomato🍅 and germinating cucumber plants growing in an aquaponic food system that hangs on the side of a shanty house in the slums of Makoko, Nigeria.
Small aquaculture systems can grow food on top of the roofs of houses while growing fish in a barrel or tank below. Aquaculture cleans the water and provides food at a very low cost.
ACP focuses on equipping the very poor to grow fish and vegetables in very limited areas - like a shanty house. With aquaculture, the poor can supplement their diets and/or their income with small food productions systems. ACP also encourages the poor to create cooperatives for their basic needs - for electricity, sanitation and potable water. The basis for this outreach is taken from the following universal axiom: "Love your neighbor as yourself." In this regard, positive and supportive relationships are built. "'If one of you says to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,'” but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?" AND "...I was hungry, and you fed me...." ACP is open to collaborate with other outreaches to help the poor of the world.
